Will Friend is a Real Coach..

Will strikes me as the type of guy that would put truck n*ts on a Geo Metro. I really like him and think our O-Line will be much improved this season. Hell after last season just lining up, pushing, and grabbing will be an improvement.

:loco:, it'll be a relief for the backs to take a handoff and not see a team photo of the other team.

I was stunned when he took the step down to CSU to go with Bobo, but I understand him now. He wants to be with a young team and turn a program around, like they were doing at Colorado State. But to raise this sleeping giant from its slumber seems to fit his character.

Plus he’s one of the ‘normal’ OL coaches at Tennessee. That is: really awesome. That is the norm, not the exception. Jones just really screwed that up. Even Dooley had great OL coaches.

You will have to forgive me, but seeing so called improvement in practice means nothing. And, kind of hard not to see improvement from one of the worst OLs in the country last year.

Just have to hope it translates to gamedays. Honestly, I dont hold much faith that it will.

That's great an' all, but...I'll believe it when I see it.

Will Friend is such a tenured well-respected coach that it's unfathomable that he would not be a huge success. It would be like if someone like Bob Schoop would come here and fail. Wait...OK wait and see it is.

:hi:

In watching video with coach Friend teaching technique to a d1 lineman, not just assuming he's mastered it. Tells me he's serious about a Volunteer offensive line that can move the chains consistently and be a strength.

I was impressed by the progress our OL made during the Spring. We’ll be even better this Fall...

I believe you in terms of belief regarding our OL improvement and gave you a like to certify that belief. BUT, we don't know nothing, we ain't seen nothing, and we ain't nothing until we face the Georgia, Florida, and Auburn teams.

Understand. It’s hard to have faith when things hit bottom like they did last year. I think all of us who are true Vols have to rely on faith in our players, coaches and fan base that we’ll eventually turn this thing around.

If he can get an OL that actually initiates contact on running plays, not saying driving anybody out of the way, just hitting them first and will stay in front of DLs for 3 seconds on pass plays it will be a 100% improvement over last season IMO. Other than Trey if a single one of them produces an actual pancake type block on an opposing defensive player, THAT would also be a 100% improvement as well.

Can we get an image of your Metro?

I'll just say I hope he can get the oline playing as a unit and be aggressive from start to finish. To me,the oline coach is the most important coach on offense. If his guys are not good none of the other positions can succeed.

I hope Friend gets these guys playing with an attitude and pushing the opponent down the field next year when blocking. We have been terrible the past few years regarding offensive line play. To win in the SEC you have to dominate on both sides of the line.

There is literally nowhere to go but up. If these guys can actually make contact with a player from the other team instead of just standing there looking lost it'll be an improvement.

The next SEC steam engine coming down the track isn't that hard to see. Faith follows the things you see. And everyone can see recruiting.

Orgeron is digging a different hole we didn't see with Les Miles. LSU just finished their worst recruiting class in 13 years. It's gonna start showing up on gameday. Jimbo is recruiting at the elite level of his FSU teams and they won't be dropping off the edge of the earth after October. Georgia is bringing the heat and even Muschamp is letting the league know he's going to be a nuisance.

Which brings me to Tennessee, so far, so good. Someone mentioned Butch's style of collecting quantity over quality. That's pretty accurate. And explains some of the results. Pruitt is going after the 4 star and if he hits the numbers needed he has the staff. Just that simple and just that complicated.

The change in scheme will help almost as much as not being so predictable. We had defenses jumping our plays based off film study. RB sets up to QB’s right he gets it going to the left. How many times in the Butch era did our RB get blasted behind the line as if there were no blockers? That’s not so much an Oline issue when they know what is coming.

No wonder Mrs. Butch said our next coach would look like a genius. It doesn’t take genius to mix things up a little.

What can happen if we keep them guessing?

How great can 2018 be?

What is your perspective on Florida and Auburn at this point? Is Mississippi State deserving of the hype they have gotten from some sources?

Hard to say about Mullen's team. He has shown the ability to do more with less, but at Florida why would you need to for long? This season will have a lot to do with the QB, so will Tennessee. Given their home games, I think they finish 3rd.

Mullen left a lot of talent at Mississippi State. Shoop better do something with the players he has coming back on defense. I got them 3rd, moving LSU to 4th. Joe Moorhead saved Franklin's offensive backside when he got to Penn State. Really, the only question I have is the QBs health. That was a gruesome injury. If he's good to go they will be tough.

Thanks. I should've included Missouri in there. Schedule-dependent, I see them fighting in that 3-5 range in the East. Interesting that you are feeling the love for SC to that degree.

To big orange train,if you have so little faith in Coach Friend, maybe you should take your "train"on outta here. We've had little to cheer about our OL the last few years because of dork coaches(one to three at a time). This group of coaches ,I believe, especially Friend, will have this Orange 18 wheeler a rollin'.
