Will Crompton/Stephens Play Better? (merged)

This team may have a Raven's feel to it this year. A swarming , smothering defense which will put the offense in better field position. This and a simplified offense should result in better qb play. Top quality running backs never hurt (a current strength) .
The enthusiasm is off the charts. Get off the qb's backs ,jump on the team and come on in for the big win!

This is kind of hilarious. The Ravens had an amazing Defensive line that year. So far, the only proven player on the line is Dan Williams, and he isn't exactly a world beater, more of a solid blue collar guy...

Not to mention Ray Lewis at LB...

I know UT has a NFL defensive coordinator now, but come on. Please be realistic. Tennessee does not have a lot of NFL talent on the defensive roster.

If the Vol defense can maintain a top 20 ranking, then everyone should be pleased. Don't expect an automatic return to the top 3 ranking in total defense. UT lost a lot of good players off last years team.

Just to add to my previous comment

Ellix Wilson, Nevin Mckenzie, Robert Ayers, Demetrice Morley, DeAngelo Willingham, Demonte Bolden...

That is a solid group of defensive players that aren't on the roster anymore. Add in the fact that Rogan might not return and solid role players like Adam Myers-White and Walter Fisher are gone, and I just find it hard to believe that the Vols will be better than last year on defense.

I think what he is saying is that, we will be relying more on our defense and just to have our offense be serviceble and not beat themselves, we could have a enjoyable season. I don't think he was saying we are the Ravens.

So many teams say the same thing every year. "All we need is a serviceable offense that protects the ball and we'll have a good year."

It sounds a lot like what LSU was saying last year... although, I guess 8-5 would be a lot nicer than 5-7...
