I have never seen a season (except 2005) where there are so many short passes. The only deep pass Ainge has thrown was the bomb to Lucas Taylor in the Mississippi State game. I mean its been over 2 months since he hurt his finger, so when are we gonna spread the field some more. Cromptons first pass was a bomb to Kenny O'Neal. Hell, if I was a defense I would make us throw deep, because we obviously have a quarterback who cant.

i think more of that has to do with who's catching the ball than who's throwing it. he proved last year he can throw the deep ball.......it's just a lot easier when you have a Robert Meachem or Bret Smith vs. Austin Rogers or Lucas Taylor.

and don't get me wrong, i think Rogers and Taylor have been good this year.......they just don't stretch the field like WR's we've had in the past.

Well, we do have O'Neal and Jones. I mean this guys are very fast and we have them in there running screen plays and slants.

they're not really getting meaningful snaps.

they've obviously decided to go with who is more sure handed thru out the season, not necessarily the fastest guys.

but again, that has more to do with who's catching than throwing.

also consider our def. woes, i think the offense is making a solid attempt to win the TOP and keep our def off the feild as much as possible.

Get ready for Saturday.

Hogs have had trouble defending the deep passes. Could be a game ruled by Ark ripping long runs and Tenn hitting deep passes

Yeah the play selection this year has been horrible. Im mad because my boy Hardesty hasnt gotten enough toughes. In the games against Georgia and Mississippi State he got 10 plus carries. In those games we beat good teams and he had quality carries, but then turn around and dont even play him against bama. We have the talent at UT, its the coaches that are horrible both offensively and defensively. But Im not telling you guys anything new!

No, but he will throw 18 screen passes to equal that of one long pass...All works out in the end, I guess...

Jones will be the starting WR in the slot this weekend

This isn't NCAA Football on PS3, every play can't be the Vertical.

Agreed. Plus, our defense is terrible at tackling and seems to wear out sometime during the third quarter. Keeping them off the field by chewing up clock with 4 and 6 yard plays is not the worst that could happen.

Not playin to win, playin not to get beat.

Jake hit it right on the money. With our defense being as bad as it has been, we're solely relying on our offense to work slowly down the field and not only chew up some clock but keep the defense off the field long enough to keep the opponent's score down. Pure mathematics. Keep them off the field long enough and either they cannot score or just cannot score ENOUGH to beat us. We'll need that Saturday big time.

When did he throw the deep ball last year?

Justin, is that a fact or is that your prediction?

It is my humble prediction. Briscoe dropped a TD and Jones saw playing time in his spot the rest of the game. It's been mentioned more than once this week that Jones is right now the second best WR behind Taylor.

Yeah....the recievers are still learning their blocking assignments.
BTW, it ain't the recievers

Separation = long passes. No separation = interceptions.

The bomb to Kenny was a well placed jump ball by Crompton.

There is no need to go long if the receivers aren't in a position to catch it. Throw in the fact that many times defenses leave two safeties back deep to stop long passes. Our offense takes what it gets, which is 5-10 yard passes. I've seen Ainge throw 20 yd + passes more than a few times this year. As long as it equals points at the end, it's fine by me to nickel and dime.

I'd rather keep drives alive and eat clock, because we need to give the other team's offense as little time as possible. Our defense just lets them stay on the field with long drives.
