Per Hubbs

Defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox cut his hand on the sideline in destroying a dry-erase board out of anger and apparently said it was the worst tackling performance he has ever been a part of as a coach.

:eek:hmy:

Hopefully this gets corrected this week.

I still can't believe I've watched the Vols four weeks in a row and see the same throw yourself at 'em tackling instead of wrapping them up!!!! What in the world is going on? And it isn't just the freshmen. But even the new guys, four weeks in, good grief.

Good to hear. Let Wilcox get in the players faces and chew their a**** out, last week was the most absurd things I have ever seen on defense.

I know that I watched him and Coach Smith just get straight pissed last weekend at the UAB game. They should be mad. That was the worst I've ever seen a UT defense look. All it boils down to is focusing and wrapping up. It seems like we have a lot of guys that try to go for the big hit. Just make the tackle.

he's not used to such bad tackling at boise state. it will take a while to get his type of players onto the field. i like the guy. his hands are tied right now,as far as schemes go. you have to give the guy time to do what needs to be done. it will take at least 2 more classes to be better than u t is right now on defense. i really believe in the near future we will have a hard time keeping him. :salute: :salute: :salute:

This is an epidemic of the new generation of the Xbox football mentality.

Everyone wants to be the hard hitter. No one wants to wrap up. I was listening to Jay Barker dicus this with Antonio Langham on Birmingham sports talk the other day. Antonio said he think its generational. That kid these days want so bad to be in the spotlight or make sportcenter and have gotten away from fundamnetals of tackling. I couldnt agree more.

Even the new guys have played football for, oh, I don't know, most of their lives.

Wrapping up is a team effort. Everyone wants to put the big hit on someone instead of grabbing something and waiting for help. Help's coming. Play like a team.

So is it sportscenter or xbox?

These coaches didnt realize what they were getting into ...you have not talent when your best player is a local walk on

Yep, on the back-breaking fake punt against UF, Austin Johnson had the opportunity to stop the play short of a first down, and just got run over.... not good for a LB.

Hate to say it, but Janzen Jackson is the king of not wrapping up.

I don't think I would classify that as "getting run over." Looked like a 1 on 1 miss tackle to me.

I honestly don't think this group cares enough to let an ass chewing bother them. Too many would rather be at Bar Knoxville.

Tackling isn't a talent issue, it's a technique issue.

Wilcox has already noted that he has more "athletic" players to work with at Tennessee than he did at Boise. That doesn't make them more skilled though.

Tackling will be huge this week, as LSU is expected to rely heavily on the run given our problems up the middle of the D line. Hubbs also mentioned that TN's practice this week was the most he has ever seen a team work on hard physical tackling drills during mid season practices.

That is good to hear, get a little fire underneath them.

I guess he's using the "try anything" approach.....they need it......tackling has been an issue all year
