I think that for the most part, (at least this year) the sec is getting plenty of respect. But on PTI today Michael Wilbon said the sec is way overated. He said the big 12 is better and the pac 10 is better. Ridiculous!! Your thoughts.

Caring what Michael Wilbon has to say about college football is like caring what Rosie O'Donnell has to say about swimsuits.

Their job is to stir the s***. That's all they were doing.

Wilbon needs to stick to basketball

If I remember correctly he said something similar to…Year in and year out the SEC is the best conference, but this year we are overrated.

Judging by our records, you can make a case for what he said.

the two best non conf. wins are LSU over VT and GA over Ok St.

aub lost to sfl, tn lost to cal, msu lost to wvu, bama lost to fsu....

yes, there's a case to be made for this year.

but if wilbon, or TK for that matter, is talking CFB.....i turn the channel.

Wilbon thinks the SEC is the 3rd best conference this year.

He's an NBA guy that amasses his knowledge about college football from looking at rankings. He also has to be on the other side of debates with Kornheiser, LeBatard, or whoever fills in for Kornheiser.

Seeing that he is an NBA pundit I could really care less about what he says about College Football. Oh yeah he's a Northwestern fan by the way.

These guys don't believe what they debate. The show is all about arguing both sides, as stupid as an opinion can be, and Wilbon was the one who had to take the asinine side of that one.

If you go by out of conference victories..... it really isnt close. You can look at all the SEC teams having 2-3 losses because the conference is real tough.....or it "could" just be that it has a lot of mediocre teams. It can be argued justly both ways.

If the majority of the SEC would actually travel for OOC games, we'd have more respect. Tennessee is about the only tradition-laden SEC school that travels often for OOC.

And you'd think it would be easier to travel since some haven't left the South since the 80's.

Well whats good with that as we, as Tennessee fans, don't have to listen to the "You don't travel argument".

If we win the sec, get ready, because the overated sec talk is going to heat up. But if lsu wins and goes on to play in the bcs title game then we wont hear much else out of it.

At least Wilbon didn't have Skip Bayless or Stephen A Smith around. I was watching Cold Pizza/First Take on a day off a few weeks ago, and both of those clowns were on at the same time.

Normally the volume on the TV is about 17; with those guys I had it on 3 and I still suffered a cerebral hemorrhage from the noise.

Yeah that Skip Bayless is a real bu++hole. He does Jim Romes show sometimes when Romey is out and I have to leave the jungle when he is there. War the sweater vest putting it on LLLoyd this weekend! Out!!

College Football Ranking Comparison

This site has a side-by-side comparison of almost all the football rating systems that exist, including all the BCS raters, Sagarin, RPI, AP, Coaches Poll, etc. I believe there are over 100 ranking systems compared at this site.

Some of these systems are simple polls, some are sequential-based "power ratings", some are based on very sophisticated mathematical models.

Many of these systems rank the conferences in addition to the teams. Despite the wide disparity in methodology/philosophy among these rating systems, the overwhelming majority of them show the SEC to be the top conference thus far in 2007.
