As for the original topic, I think it sounds like a bunch of garbage. Perhaps the wording is misleading. Nintendo loves to make the same product over and over, but this just doesn't make any logical sense.
A BluRay drive immediately splits the market. That is not something Nintendo usually does. I don't see folks re-buying a system they rarely use at this point any way. It wont make any new folks get one with a PS3 close in price and stand alone players cheaper.
1080p gaming? That's an big change in the cpu/gpu. However, this might just be misleading wording and actually mean upscaling to support higher resolutions. Big deal, your tv already does this.
And I don't recall any trade in programs on the 101 different gameboy/advance/ds/dslite/dsi/dsixl/etc. Nintendo is not known to give away money.
Those are some of the reasons I wouldn't put too much stock in it. I'll never say never, though.
