Why would Les leave LSU for Michigan? It doesn't make sense. Maybe because the fans have no respect for him? Or is he really just an idiot?

Still...some dude chose the 49ers..I repeat...the 49ers over his alma mater

You qgonna tell me that if someone offers you a job that triples your salary and doesn't involve you even moving that you wouldn't take it?

I'm not greedy. Not moving sounds boring. Money isn't everything. If I built Standford university to the top level, no way in hell I would leave. Unless UT offered of course!:)

Sabin couldn't cut it in the NFL. But when the opportunity presented itself, shortly after winning a NC with LSU he jumped at it. Like I said NFL >>> NCAA!

Agreed, not to mention even though the Niners have been bad for the past 8 years, historically they're still a top franchise in the NFL and have A LOT of talent and play in a weak conference. I can almost promise Harbaugh wins the NFC West and coaches in an NFC Championship game before his tenure is up. He wasnt going to win at Michigan for a long time.

He has all but worn out his welcome in Baton Rouge. Better to leave now than to get fired in a couple years.

Here's why.

1) Miles still lives in the shadow of Saban.
2) LSU might rise back up and re-take the SEC West from Bammer or Auburn, or they might decline (the latter is more likely to happen)
3) Michigan would be happy with a 7- or 8-win season, as long as they're not getting destroyed
4) The caliber of coaching in the Big Ten is feeble; Ron Zook is probably the third- or fourth-best head coach in the conference
5) If LSU declines, Miles takes the blame. If Michigan shows even minimal improvement, he gets the credit.

Give michigan boosters 7 or 8 won seasons then they'll start demanding wins over Ohio St and rose bowl appearances. They have every bit the winning expectations as a program like tennessee

Alot easier conference. See the Michigan St. vs. Alabama game. Ohio st. should be the only other decent team.

Michigan is in exactly the same situation as Notre Dame was when they hired Charlie Weis. Having now faced a great deal of criticism for overestimating their own relevance and for being too impatient, they're much more likely to stick with whoever the next coach is for too long if he's not getting the job done.

It's his alma mater. He played there. He was an assistant there for the better part of a decade. Michigan is its own brand, and it will be easier to win in the Big 10 than in the SEC, even taking recruiting bases into consideration. LSU fans can't stand him, and he really has nothing else to prove there. He's already won a National Championship along with some other 10 win seasons and BSC bowl wins. And to top it all off, if he were to get Michigan back to respectability, he would be viewed as a God in Ann Arbor. He's got plenty of reasons to leave for Michigan.

The same reason Johnny Majors left Pitt right after winning the national championship.

Getting them there was one thing, keeping them there would be quite another...Triple salary, no recruiting = no brainer...Good move by Harbaugh IMO...

You are highly paid but deeply unliked and mistrusted at LSU. You already have a national championship in your back pocket, but despite that you've teetered on the edge of the hot seat several times since then. The job at your alma mater is open, and that's a job that comes open on average about once every 10 years. You have an opportunity to go home and coach a team that you probably love about a thousand times more than you do these insane ungrateful Louisiana weirdos. Your choices are to cash in and go home now while the job's open and the money's on the table, or to stick it out with LSU, probably get run out of town in a couple of years anyway, and then never get the chance to coach Michigan again.

I know a lot of people from the north who have moved down south and then decided that they never, ever want to see snow ever again. That's the only reason I can think of that Miles might turn Michigan down.

Probably even moreso. UM is the winningest program in major college football history. If UT fans are a 10 on a scale of impatience, UM fans would be a 13.

I think miles would be dumb to not go to michigan. Nothing he does at lsu is ever good enough. As far as coaches zook is no higher than the 7th best coach in the conference behind: tressel, bielema, pelini, dantonio, ferentz, fitzgerald, and maybe joepa since he's just a figured head now.
