UT can't seem to catch a break. After Fulmer won a National Championship, this team has been in a slow decline. There are many reasons for that. Cutcliffe leaving for Ole Miss, Randy Sanders, and the Dave Clawson fiasco. Fulmer became lazy in recruiting and left the cupboards bare. Along came Kiffin making headlines and bringing a new excitement to Tennessee, however, he made many questionable remarks leading to negative press and a divided fan base. Many players went elsewhere so Kiffin could start his guys. SC came calling and Kiffin bolts. Many of his recruits left and simply didn't work out. Players like Bryce Brown, David Oku and others left. The NCAA investigation led to top tier coaches declining the UT job offer. Fortunately, Dooley accepted the challenge. Everyone knew this wasn't going to be easy. You can't replace a coach like Fulmer and have his success in one year. Dooley salvaged a recruiting class and had a great class last year. The SEC 25 player rule didn't help this staff. Dooley had a decent first year but the LSU and UNC losses hurt. Winning one or both of those games would have helped this team's morale and recruiting. This year, Hamilton resigns and UT is without an AD for months. The NCAA didn't find anything related to UT Football so things were looking up. Now Hunter goes down! I don't know of any other program in the NCAA that has endured so much in a short period of time. Let's be realistic, it will take time for Dooley to turn this around. Do you think bringing in another coach, installing a new system, and losing recruits that the staff has been working on for the past two years really work? This staff is finally able to recruit 2 and 3 years ahead instead of jumping in last minute on players. Dooley is the right man for the job but it will take time. It took Spurrier 6 years to make USC a contender. Last year was the first year they were really relevant in the SEC. It will take Dooley that long as well. I believe he is the right man for the job. This team simply needs something good to happen. A couple of big wins this year will go a long way. If not, I am excited about the next two years. These boys will grow into men and several will be playing on Sundays. The fan base needs to be patient. It could be worse, we could have Muschamp acting a fool on our sidelines instead of a class act like Dooley.

Especially when he leaves the cupboard so bare of quality interior lineman

I agree with you, I posted to fire him but that was a joke to some of the fans that do that. It will take time we know, just hard to except at times.

I think that the opportunity that was lost on Saturday is more depressing than having lost the game. Most of us realize how huge it would be to beat a top tier SEC team this season, even though it is a long shot. Beating UGA or SC doesn't have the same pizzaz as beating a Bama, LSU or UF. I'd love to beat the Dawgs and the Cocks, but if we're going to restore some positive national media attention to this team and make it a little easier for the coaches to get a foot in the doors of some of these all-american types that we need to be recruiting then we need to beat one of the big boys. UF was young and operating with a new head coach this year. That was the best chance for Dooley getting a signature win this season. Lightning rarely strikes twice but maybe we get lucky and Miles has multiple brain farts and we have a shot at LSU again. This program needs a break, badly.

The people calling for DD's firing are the same people who thought we would go 10-2 - they should be ignored on both topics

Why fire Dooley? Because our fanbase is the equivalent of a chicken that thinks it's head is cut off.

I'm not making excuses... but Christ, come on. We lost our biggest offensive weapon who a good portion of our gameplan was drawn around. After he went out, Florida's defensive gameplan was made inordinately simple. They went from having to defend, legitimately, 50 yards of the field to having to defend 20-25. We made mistakes and Dooley ultimately answers for them, but, don't downplay the significance of losing the 2nd most important player on the team.

They start all the threads, because on this board it seems like the popular thing to do.

which there is no evidence that either is happening. We continue to come out for the game and look like the keystone cops, if you call that improvemnt or good coaching then that is your problem. Mark this down Vandy will beat us this year with a first year coach who gets how to get people excited and forgets the homespun bs Dooley sprouts. By the way he took this job for a hugh pay increase and a chance to coach in the SEC. The thought that he did us a favor is bs. Our schemes are so basic on both offense and defense a first year GA could gameplan around them. Where is the heat on defense? Where is the offensive push, where are the special teams play? And don't even get me started on recruiting the great Dooley plan we just saw what those 2 and 3 stars look like against 4 and 5 stars and it isn't pretty. Thank goodness for Tyler Bray and a weak out of conference schedule so Dooley the great could keep his job but it is 6-6 at best.

So how long should we be satisfied with beating all the bad teams and losing to the good ones? I am not saying fire him yet but if this is another 6-6 season and next season goes the same way then it's time to look at our situation. Remember Dooley has only beat one team over .500 in his coaching career. He has not proven anything yet, other than I think he is a really smart guy and a good guy and would never get the program in NCAA trouble.

Okay. You need to understand that there is a difference in being satisfied with a loss and understanding this is his 2nd year and, within 1 month has lost his best defender (by a long shot) and his 2nd best offensive player. In a sense, the JJ loss also cost us Waggner as a CB. No, he hasn't beaten anyone yet. He's also still rebuilding from not only Fulmer's mess... but also Kiffin's.

It's not making excuses, it's creating context. NOBODY is satisfied with losing to Florida.

1. We are 2-1, let's not concede a 6-6 season for the next two years.

2. If you're scenario happens, we won't need keyboard coaches, QB's, and AD's to demand a change. Our new, and very competent, AD will take care of business.

The reason for the replacing Dooley talk comes from the same group IMHO that got over-excited and started all those threads about how bad we were going to beat Florida and that we would win the SEC and maybe even go 12-0. RIDICOULOUS ..

We have a good coach (time will tell if he is a great coach) and folks just need to settle down and give the man a chance to let his system work or fail. He said all along that he is more concerned about he system than the wins right now.

Take a breath and let the Man Coach...

I think beating SC will be much harder than beating UF.

Tell us about all the other great coaches at La Tech, please. He was at La Tech! And they thought he did wonders with the program! Had to start somewhere. Give the man a break.

He was also playing against WAC competition, it's not like he was at La Tech playing the whole SEC. The oline is terrible in run blocking, the D is terrible especially front 4 except maybe Jac Smith and special teams are still a non factor. I just don't see this team beating any good teams I hope like hell I am wrong.

The lunatic fringe and perpetual malcontents are calling for the firing of CDD. Pay them no mind.

I don't think people want him fired they just wonder if he's going to get us in trouble by playing players whose completed their elgibility. What was he doing with John Crompton at center?

Been here a year. Gonna start using the Ignore button. Starting with you. You have written more here than you have read about what is going on at UT in your lifetime.

A 17-20 record says otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the Dooley hire. But come on people. How many other big time programs were lining up to offer him a job?
