For Democrats, the Don Blankenship dream is over. The coal-mining baron and ex-con was a pleasant diversion—the prospect of yet another train-wreck Republican candidate was exactly the kind of opponent that Sen. Joe Manchin needed in his dicey reelection campaign in West Virginia—but now it’s back to the reality of a merciless map that offers little hope for Chuck Schumer’s dream of becoming majority leader.

That may be true but it will still be nice to have another Democratic Senator in a bright red state, though... and that is going to happen right here in the Volunteer state. Bredesen is going to mop the floor with Blackburn's butt - double digits.

Exactly. The writer apparently didn't do his homework. Lazy reporting.

Beyond that pair, everything else is a stretch. Rep. Marsha Blackburn appears capable of blowing a lay-up open seat in Tennessee for the Republicans, and there are signs that Sen. Ted Cruz could be ripe for a takedown from cash-flush Democrat Beto O’Rourke in Texas, but both of those races are mostly progressive wishcasting at this point.

Blackburn is a joke. She just sounds like she's lying to you every time she opens her mouth. So fake. That said, Blankenship was ridiculous.

Defeating Bredesen in Tennessee is a "lay up"? That is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. The writer obviously doesn't know that Phil was a great governor who was very popular when he left office. Corker has already said that he will not be endorsing Blackburn because Bredesen is such a good friend. Indeed, that is a stupid article.

One of the most flagrantly stupid posts I have ever read on this forum. Don Sundquist (a Republican) desperately wanted to impose a state income tax. Bredesen didn't do it. End/

I think you are struggling with reading comprehension. The author was saying it should be a layup but won’t be. Which is accurate. GOP territory but will lose to a very popular ex-governor.

Yup, I noticed that.

In his rush to discredit the source, BBros forgot to actually think through what he was reading.

He is right. Bredesen was a very good Governor. Reminds me of the old Georgia Governor Zell Miller.

Blackburn has my vote as well. Bredesen sucked as Tennessee governor.

Bredesen was recruited personally by CHUCK SHUMER to run for the senate.

Oh no! Who cares who convinced him to run? He was a good Governor by most every one I know. I vote probably close to 75% republican. He was a good one.

You just called him a "prolific taxer". You obviously know NOTHING about the fiscally responsible work he did as Governor. He is one of the best we have had in modern history. Maybe you should take a minute and look into it more?

Leftists call raising taxes as being "fiscally responsible."

NASHVILLE -- Departing Gov. Phil Bredesen says his successor can run state government without a sales tax hike, but the record shows that, while Bredesen didn't raise the sales levy, other taxes and fees soared close to $1 billion on his watch.

A list of tax and fee measures compiled by the General Assembly's Fiscal Review Committee staff, combined with Revenue Department figures and news accounts, shows total increases in Bredesen's tenure exceeded $900 million, although some tax and fee hikes are, theoretically, only temporary.

Such as what? I notice you didn't provide a link or source to this.

... and for God's sake, you do realize that this article is very flattering of the job that Bredesen did as Governor although it does hint that much good fortune was involved?

He’s special...I know very few who think badly of him. And those who do, for this race, think so bc of his age which is legitimate
