Why Phillip Fulmer will never be fired...

Yes, unless Cutcliffe ascends to power after Phil sits out part of a season after gastric bypass surgery.

Funny you should mention that. Maybe that is my biggest beef with the state of the program. CPF had an opportunity to hire some new blood. I thought about Cut as soon as I posted my Majors vent.

Will we give up the Majors ghost once CPF is gone? Majors wrote his own ticket out of town. Some people are fun to be around when they are drunk. Others run their mouths entirely too much.

The point was, when Fulmer was the Offensive Coordinator he was campaigning to the AD to replace Majors.

Now when the shoe is on the other foot, and Fulmer is the one being discussed people believe Fulmer should be treated with kid gloves.

That seems germane to me.

That seems pretty relevant to me.

You have obviously never met Doug Dickey if you think for one minute an assistant coach had any pull on him. From almost the time CJM got the gig he and Dickey had an ego battle going on.

You and others may not want to face it but CJM sealed his own fate. CPF won the job by handling the team the way he did. No one early on thought CPF would get the gig. That is reality whether or not you want to face it. I also don't think CPF should be handled with kid gloves. He is a big boy. But I do think people deserve to be treated with respect and I think he has earned that and a chance to fix things. We saw vast improvement last year and I think we will see more. I have no issue firing people when they deserve it. But I do think CPF does not deserve to be fired yet.

See, that's the thing. How is going from 6 losses to 4 losses "vast improvement?" The only real difference in the record came from us beating South Carolina and Vanderbilt, as oppposed to the results in the '05 games.

I think we need to make a clean break from the Majors Era and begin with a new scheme/regime. Replacing Fulmer with Cutcliffe doesn't give me that warm, toasty feeling that we're heading in a new direction.

The way we played in most games. Even in losing you can tell if a team is playing better or not. We were a better team vastly.

it showed we were much better when we found a way to stay in the game with a much better florida team, especially when we had -11 rushing yards

I'm not arguing that Majors didn't get himself fired.
I was never a big Majors fan and I haven't met very many either.

What I'm saying is, when the shoe was on the other foot, Fulmer did what many do now and that is call for change in the HC.

What I don't understand why people don't think that is fair criticism. Major's last 4 years were better then Fulmer's.

What your saying about Fulmer is fair, and I'm not completely convinced Fulmer should be fired but I'm willing to listen to the arguments. I think his staff with Cutcliffe, Chavis, Brooks, is pretty good but I have doubts he will win another SEC championship because of Saban and Meyer now in the conference. What he did in 98 to win I'm not sure will work in 07.

Other than the Cal game, which was against a vastly overrated opponent, and maybe Georgia, I don't see it. Florida physically manhandled us and LSU turned the ball over four times and still beat us in our building. Actually, the only difference is that we won close games against South Carolina and Kentucky, as opposed to the tight losses to USC and Vandy in '05.

The 05 team would have lost to Cal and did lose the other 2 you mentioned.
The only game all year that I thought we didn't have a chance in was Arky. They blew us up and by the time we caught our breath it was way late

The 2006 team was better than the 2005 team for sure. Eating liver is also better than eating poop. Catch my drift?

i dont know about that...i few bounces our away in 2005 and we would have had a decent season...but i guess with cutliffe back last year, we improved drastically offensively....
