I know Chavis probably has a bad taste in his mouth for TN, but he is a VFL. Hamilton is gone and I am sure he has alot of friends and family ties still in Knoxville. I don't think Fulmer would begrudge him an opportunity to come home so I don't see why there is such hesitation for him being a viable candidate. After what he has done at LSU I would think recruits would be knocking down TN's door to play for him even if he is known to be a little lazy at recruiting while he was here. He seems to have no problem getting the best to go to LSU...thoughts?

I don't think he would consider coming back. He doesn't have to recruit LSU. They just line up to play there.

Probably because he's at a program playing for a national title. I wish we could pull that hire off, I think it would be good, but realistically it just won't happen.

I don't get how people think that a guy that is sitting on top of the world would want the same position for a guy he probably has no respect for.

He wouldn't be working for you....:lolabove:

Seriously though, the guy worked for Fulmer and you think he wouldn't respect Dooley?

I shouldn't be surprised by the stupidity here sometimes... but I still am.

Well, I can see why he would not want to leave LSU, but who knows. Perhaps TN is home. I would at least make the call to gauge his interest...You never know.

Chavis was part of the problem at UT. Unless Miles has found a way to light a fire under his tail in recruiting.... he may end up being a problem for Miles too.

Remember this: Chavis was the #2 guy on staff for MOST of the years UT was in decline. His complacency in recruiting contributed to the roster problems.

As for those giving him credit for LSU's D... allvol123 could coach them and look like a genius. Chavis still has the same flaws (mediocre playcaller and bad at in-game adjustments) that he had at UT. He just has athletes right now that can cover it up.

True, he'd be working for the most incompetent head coach in the SEC.

This isn't about Fulmer. You must be another one of the people on here that has a nerve struck anytime someone isn't sucking up to Dooley. No coach that has had any amount of success and has any other opportunity is going to work for this retard. There isn't another legitimate football program in the country that would hire him as head coach and it isn't even close.

I'm sure I am about to get lit up for this, but I've wondered about Chavis as a head coach. It's by no means perfect, but I think Chavis has always been able to get his players to play hard for him (which we desperately need). I also think he makes the adjustments necessary to get back into games.

Ah, yes, Third Down Chavis. The man that snatched more defeats out of the mouth of victory than anyone I have ever seen. Isn't it nice to be coaching at a place that has more than enough top notch football players to cover a certain defensive coordinator's stupidity??

I'm pretty sure Chavis would expect to come back as HC. Someone with his resume working under someone with Dooley's-- I just don't see it.

Can their really be this many Vols that are so unthankful of all the years we could expect to win? We fired Fulmer because 9 wins was a must and now the program is in the worst shapen I can remember.

Some of you idiots prefer failure to admitting your mistake. Is there any bottom where haters like sjt18 will finally realize a mistake was made? No there is not. Some people can never get past their blinders. It would have never gotten this bad with Phil and by now we would be able to expect to win at least 9 games a year again.

A huge mistake was made.

You know how Coach Zo is with the media? He would be considered to be Ronald Reagan compared to Chavis. Unfortunately there's more to the job than what he does as a coordinator.
