Why no Creer?

The RT is Ramon Foster.

Ramon Foster. He was at RT.

I know this. I was drinking and not listening with full attention, so he could have been referring to him, but I thought he was referring to the back missing a block. I could certainly be wrong, this was the most uninterested I have been in a UT game since I have been a fan.

You could certainly be right but I believe it was Ramon. I too was fairly disinterested and more than fairly drunk.

He definitely indicated Ramon. I don't blame you for missing that one, though.

Edit: why can't I ever link to other threads correctly?

Pages 62-63 of game thread confirm that it was Ramon.

If I were Creer, I would find me a Big 12 program that needed a running back. It is obvious that this staff does not know how to use his talent. He is wasting his time playing for Fulmer.

Yep, let him waste a year transferring instead of being a primary back here next year. Brilliant.

Do you think this season is already a waste? If so and you believe he will be a primary back next year, why not get the transition in motion?

People have a major hard-on for Hardesty because he runs hard. I love the way Hardesty runs too but his lack of vision really kills his physical talents. People would grow tiresome of him very quickly if he was getting the majority of the carries.

My counterpoint to that would be, vision can be learned, speed can't.

I would love to see Foster and Hardesty both in the backfield, with Foster as FB Hardesty as RB. Foster will probably play FB at the next level if he gets a shot, but I think he's got too big of an ego to go for that at UT.

Apparently there are others that think Creer should be playing more, along with Moore and even Berry on offense.

Quote:
"UT needs a receiver who can make a defender pay for tight coverage. It needs a running back who can turn a 15-yard run into a 50-yard touchdown."

"That's why players like Moore and running back Lennon Creer should get more opportunities. And that's why strong safety Eric Berry should be used on offense as well as defense."

It's a moot point since Hardesty hasn't learned it in the 4 years since he has been here.

IMO though, you can't teach vision. I think it can be marginally improved but no more. That is a debate for another day though...

I would not be against Creer getting more carries at all. He should be getting at least as many as Hardesty.

There's nothing to play for this year. UT should look at getting the younger players like Creer some experience. Start Creer and Stephens and you got something to build on for next year and the year after. :twocents:

Agree with the idea, but Fulmer is fighting for his job so he is going to be playing the best he's got, future be damned. He is in a "win now to save my ass" mode.

Hardesty is a redshirt junior.

I think it can be learned, whether or not UT's coaching staff knows how to teach that is another story.

How would one go about learning such skill? Seriously curious. I have seen a couple drills meant to hone in this but never one to teach it.

I think it is a skill that can be honed but not learned. Some players just don't have the mental capabilities to process what they are seeing fast enough to translate it to what to do on the football field.

note: don't take that as me saying Hardesty is dumb or anything. not saying that in the least. it is a special kind of skill that not every one has.

I don't think Foster is physical enough to be a FB. He looks to be a tweener in the NFL. To slow to be a RB but too small and not physical enough to be a FB. You can get away with it in college but not in the NFL.

They teach RB's how and when to cutback at the high school level. How and when to bounce outside, etc.

Not really what I am talking about. That is really just fundamentals. Every back knows how to cutback if they made it to the college level. Not every one knows how to recognize when to apply it to the field in what situations. I don't think Hardesty has the capabilities to process that info quick enough in his head to determine what to do, and that is why Hardesty always looks his best when he is just exploding threw a hole straight ahead.
