Didnt it used to be on the West? When was it changed?

The West is the 'front' of Neyland.

And why would they want to be over there with afternoon sun in their eyes?

New coach need to move it back!

I don't care where it is...as long as UT wins!

the rule is that the student seating can not be directly behind the visitors bench

Hm I wonder why? We had the opportunity to sit behind the visiting team fans and I said, No Way !!
So we are behind the visiting team, you'd think they'd want their fans behind their team instead of ours but then I didn't make the rules..

GO VOLS....
GO BIG ORANGE ...

He can't! The NCAA rule states that the visiting team bench, can't be in front of the home team's student section.

That rule was literally nicknamed 'The Florida Rule' when it was put in place. You can guess why. Those classy Gator fans couldn't resist throwing objects at visiting teams.

That is correct. Our bench was, at one time, on the West side, putting the visitors in front of the students on the East. The above rule forced us to change, and it was easier to move benches than dislocate every ticket holder on the west by moving the students.

EDIT: I'm not sure when it was changed, but I distinctly remember Carl Pickens sitting atop a fan in front of me on the west sideline, so it was after the early '90s.

At Commonwealth in the 70s we used to put the visitors on the shaded side of the stadium for the colder November games. In those days, we played Florida in mid-November. Nothing like a slothful lizard shivering in the shade on a chilly day.

And that was about the last time you guys beat UF too isn't it:)

the rule was changed in the 90's when the UF student section threw cups of urine on the Vols seated in front of them.

one of many reasons that i despise the Gators.

the press box and more importantly, the big money season ticket holders, want the TN sideline on the east so they can see what is going on better....and oh yea, the NCAA rule also has to be inforced too

After the 92 season, I believe. And our students had a part in it, as well. Spurrier going off in the downpour that year and the subsequent barrage of cups and bottles that were thrown his way was one the examples used to implement that rule.

All schools were guilty to a degree.

UF carried it above and beyond the call of duty. They didn't call it the Florida Rule for nothing.

This had nothing to do with it. Also, having seen many games from the middle of the "big money season ticket holders" in section U, it is much easier to see what is happening on the near sideline than the far.

you are entitled to your opinion, i know for a fact that the press box wanted the Vols on the opposite side as well as MANY of the donors, they want to see the coahes from the front side not their backsides

I don't know what the press box wanted or MANY of the donors. I do know that the switch was a result of the rule change, and nothing else, and that there is a much better view of the UT bench from the same side of the field.
