First, nobody is going to confuse me with an advocate for women's basketball. Also, by raising this question publicly, I'm kind of defeating my point. However, I have to ask why in the world Pat Summit's divorce is any of the public's business. The fact that the major newspapers across the state are running this as major news shows the complete paucity of restraint or journalisitic instinct among the whole lot of them. It's nothing more than a way to lure in idiot voyeurs. Divorcing her husband in no way affects her ability to do the job that makes her a public figure. The media should be ashamed, but that bus pulled out long ago.

It was on the front page of the Maryville Daily Times this morning.

I agree with you hat.

Then, can you pull it from the first four spots on the news section of the home page?

If I could, I would. Unfortunately, I have those scripts automated to pull the latest articles from certain news sources. I apologize, as that means I too am part of the problem.

hate I agree totally. This is a private matter and should remain one. It's even on ESPN.com for crying out loud!

I guess it's part of being a celebrity. . . but I agree with you Hat. It's dumb that this is front page news.

Public figures are magnets for news. Public figures have little personal life. Since divorces are a matter of public record and she's a public figure, someone in the press will write about it. And believe it or not people will read about it. Millions are made on people's personal life details daily. When you check out at the grocery store what publications fill the racks right there?

Not justifying it. Just saying people write as long as there is a demand.

Not your fault. I figured those were somehow automated. There's no blame due to be heaped on you because the major media outlets in the state of Tennessee are nothing more than bunch of ink stained Gladys Kavitzes.

The real news is how she was able to keep her focus and not kill the lady she found in bed with her ole man...and win a National Title on top of it... Vol fans already knew the divorce was coming ...I applaud coach Summit for having the balls and integrity to overcome the emotional strain it put on her last season. This season should be a breeze after that. The divorce just frees her mind the BS she had to deal with at home...

No wonder Peyton Manning said she was the main person he would go to alot of times for advice!

The line between gossip and news is pretty blurry now. Newspapers sales are falling through the floor because of the internet.

ehh, newspapers have become nothing but US Weekly, The Sun, and People printed on cheap paper daily. Most of the stories are worthless garbage surrounding pop culture.

I think it is causing quite a stir than for no other reason than they have been married for so long. If it was someone she had been married to for 5 years or less, we wouldn't have heard much about it. Statistics show divorce isn't nearly as common for couples married 10 years or more as compared to those married for less than 10 years. The gap widens even further for those married over 20 years.

Does this mean you are not scouring the internet 24/7 and updating the site every couple of minutes?

I have lost all respect for you...just...wow.

I don't know her, but I really like her hat. Classic style that every vol fan should wear on game day.
This is my hat:

My shirts are orange, so I like the contrast.

It's also about the only pic of her that you could put on the board. FWIW, she does keep the hat on for most of the shoot.
