Why is it...

It is really solid QB play that has been missing, but also needs solid play calling. The adjustments at the half have been pretty atrocious.

Didn't realize UNC played GA State and BYU too
No but they lost to USCe who we killed. I guess it depends on which team showed up. Second half of the season we win 10 games. First half of the season, let's just not talk about that

“Why is it...”

That we just can’t have nice things!
From ranked 14th in the freakin country - to losing at home to Kentucky by 27.

They are breaking all our cool stuff.

I wish it were an option. I wish Tennessee “would” be willing to hand out money “up front” to coaches like it were ice cream. I wish some great coach was waiting at the door......but none of that is true.

I don’t like Pruitt (right now) simply because he gave me hope......and promptly dashed it......but he is here for a while. I certainly hope things change and he becomes great.

I’m not holding my breath.....but one can dream.
I know it's not and it's that way because we have an inept athletic dept. Nothing we can do but hold our breaths and dream.

With our pedigree, we should be getting the good coaches lining up at the door. Is there something about Tennessee that puts people off?
Pedigree is fun to argue about with friends, but honestly it doesn't mean much when you haven't got much to boast about in the past 15-20 years.

Good coaches don't bounce around much. Once it's realized they're a good coach a program will usually lock them down with a big contract if they're the kind of school that can afford to. Unless you're the school that gave them the opportunity (like Meyer at Florida), chances are you either have to be the school that a good coach is an alumnus of and wants to return to (Majors coming back to Tennessee) or a good coach has to be unhappy and want to leave their current job (Saban leaving the Dolphins).

More than likely if Pruitt doesn't work out, we continue to hire coordinators or coaches that have had success at smaller programs. Maybe promote from within (like Dabo Swinney) if we were lucky.

I believe J. Majors was the last big name coach TN has hired and that was 20+ yrs ago. How sad is that.
Only one in my lifetime. He was the ultimate "big name". FWIW (not much).

I don't know what it's like for these AD's and coaches to go out and sign contracts guaranteeing about 30 million dollars for guys that probably aren't much different from the guys coaching high school ball. I don't know what these guys look for in a job. Lucky them, that's all I can say. If I can make 4 million dollars a year coaching anywhere (and you can), I guess I'd look for an advantaged situation. I can't really imagine myself in that situation.

I think of all the arguments, two ring true to me:
1. The schedule. Lots of people said you have to "beat the best" to be the best. So when you lose to the best, turns out that's pretty much just regular losing.
2. The level of expectation. I mean, UNC football is pretty non-toxic. If you have to ask "what's the difference" well there's the biggest one.

You know, I don't actually believe that. Some would, but for some of them, when you start creating a huge dynasty, then you start thinking you might have a legacy, and you can deflect money and contracts. A lot of the old "deans" of coaching didn't have to get paid much. They didn't have time to enjoy it anyway. It kind of only takes one guy to make it all about money, and of course that guy is Jimmy Sexton. At some point you don't care much about him.
