I do not think I have seen a UT team fumble the ball this many times. I think in the last 5 games we have fumbled more than I have seen us do it in a season before. until this past game it was kind of covered up by the fact we fell on almost every fumble by us or anyone else.

I remember a certain former Vol who fumbled a few times and was vilified. There is another current guy plays the same position that fumbles a lot more often but gets no hate for it. Now do I think the hate should be there? no but I wonder why one guys drops a couple balls his whole career when another fumbles like once a game and no comment on it.

This is not targeting one guy now... fumbles are a thing that happen a lot on this team. I think most of them are because of the oline (bad snaps bad protection) but a lot have been after the catch. We have had what 2 in the end zone or was it 3? We are averaging like 3 fumbles a game at this point Last year we had 20 fumbles 7 lost.. we are dang near that after 5 games already (iirc we are currently at 15-3).

We'd rather celebrate one of the best comeback wins in our history and a 5-0 start rather than look for things to whine about. Try it -- it's a lot more fun!!

Yep and we recovered most of them. Hurds fumble made national news. That one sucked big time.

I was disappointed with that myself. I don't feel he was show boating at all, I just think he let up entirely too early and got lit up. He made up for it later though. I'll bet that's th last time he does that.

It gets mentioned often. I don't how many times I've heard our luck of jumping on fumbles was bound to run out.

5-0 obviously doesn't make it okay, but if we don't recover them I say it's more of an issue. The last two games it has not been much of an issue. Hurd should have finished the run into the end zone yesterday though, he finishes it and that Hail Mary yesterday is not needed. We won though, I'm not going to complain

I love Hurd and he means so much to this team. However, 3 straight years he put us in a bind against Georgia. Fumble in the end zone 2014 recovered for a td , fumble on the 1 yard line returned for a td 2015, fumble in the end zone 2016....all against Georgia. I hate to bring this up but damn. Having said that, I'm glad he is on our team and hope he tightens things up.

I wouldn't put the fumble on him last year, that is the risk you take coming out of the gun from the one or two yard line. Yesterday there was no excuse for that though.

I mentioned this in another post and it has been a disturbing trend the first 5 games. Only thing that has saved us was we only lost 2 of the fumbles. But Dobb's has 6 int's in 5 games and 5 fumbles that we have fortunately gotten back, Hurd has 4 fumbles and lost 1 of them which cost us a TD yesterday and Kama has 3 fumbles and also has lost 1 and also was yesterday. So before yesterday those 3 combined had fumbled 10 times and didn't lose any of them then yesterday Hurd and Kamara each had a fumble and lost them both.while yes we are 5-0 and before yesterday we had been fortunate to get all 10 fumbles back then lost 2 yesterday. That luck doesn't last and these things start to even out so that has to get cleaned up as do the int's..if it continues they eventually will start costing us games and potentially against a bad team that we have no business losing to. Hope that is a topic of focus this week.

Man, I remember when we fumbled a LOT more than this...and worse, when we fumbled back then, we almost always lost possession.

Seems to me that was in the Arian Foster days. Or am I mis-remembering that?

Yeah forget being 5-0 and having the second longest win streak in college football....let's talk about something negative....after all we have been on the wrong side of luck for 10 years....we should keep losing because this is what this fan base only knows...and after the best start for us since 1998 let's focus on fumbles. 5-0 be damned.

Seems like we are putting it on the ground more now but recovering them. Back then it was fewer but it seems like we always lost them and it was always at the worst time, either keeping us from scoring to get us back in a game or giving them an easy score. The fumbles against Ga(this year and last year) were classic except we ended up winning both games. The Pig fumble was one of the worst ones ever.

Ball security is yet another issue that has been washed away by the wins.

You're not. I'd only add that those "Arian Foster" days typically involved key fumbles at very inopportune times vs our biggest rival(s) as well. He earned that reputation.

If you have the football and you think you are running free, better keep your head on a swivel. Until you reach the goal line. This play hypothetically cost us the game.

It worries me a lot going into these next 2 games and beyond. Up to this point we have faced lesser or at best equal talent now we are facing teams that match up and in the case of Bama exceed us and are not prone to letting us get away with that crap.

I get that we just had an amazing comeback.. but after 4 of those and the fact the Florida game was much more important I am kinda numb to the big emotional crap. I celebrated for the day and like our team should be doing decided to look forward to the next game.

Trust me I live in Chattanooga so I live next to lots and lots of Dawgs fans. This game was a huge deal here. Heck the state border of Georgia is about 1200 feet from my house. That being said the Bama border isn't that much farther.

More than fumbles. Dobbs has thrown some ugly red zone interceptions. Worst ball security I have seen under Jones.

Wonder if this is the result of limiting contact all training camp ?
I mean ultimately that's where you teach and correct ball security. Just a thought

The ints do not worry me. They were all the product of pressure. Look at the 5 or 6 plays opportunities Dobbs has had a chance to throw from a clean pocket (like the hail mary). He throws a good ball when allowed to set his feet and not run for his life with a 300lb DT hanging off him.

THe fact he has only thrown 6 is actually amazing when you take into consideration the amount of pressure he is often throwing into. Why is Tyler Byrd showing up so much on film? he has a talent most of out other Wideouts don't have he can get separation on a regular basis better than everyone not named Josh Smith. Malone can break free over the top with speed. Jennings can outfight anyone for any ball. But for the most part since Pig we haven't had a guy that could generate consistent separation other than Josh Smith. Because of this Dobbs is almost always throwing in tight windows and he is not as inaccurate as most seem to think but he is not laser accurate and normally is not able to set his feet because ya know life is good and he does not want to die.
