Plenty of fan base is awful and show no class in Gainesville . My team has been beat before so its no biggie.
But plenty of Gator fans do show good sportsmanship. IMO, the experience you get at a team's stadium is a function of such things as the mix of students to alumni, whether the game is early in the day or later, and the importance of the game.
All of those factors feed into the question of just how drunk the fans you run into are going to be.

having been to many different stadiums, at varying game times, I can honestly say UF fans are in a class of their own (and it's not the honors class). I even gave Gainesville a 2nd chance and it was worse than the first

I will never visit Gainesville again, period. They were the absolute worst and I've treated and Ive been to every school in the SEC. I got in four fights in three days. I will say that I received the best black eye I ever had down there. They also threw a rock through my friend's windshield because he had a Tennessee sticker on his car.
Been in one fight at Auburn. One of the people I was with got spit on. I saw who did it but he never saw me coming. Luckily some Auburn fans with class saw what happened and helped remove some of his friends from my back. They pushed us away but I did have time to look back and take pleasure in seeing the guy on his back trying to make his nose stop bleeding.I will never visit Gainesville again, period. I am sorry you had a bad time there. I've always been cordial to opposing team's fans, whether it was as a student or as an alumn.
