Why didn’t we RUN the damn football!

Thank you.

Also, if OP will look at the stats, we had 31 rush attempts and 40 pass attempts. We tried to run the ball, but our OL was mediocre at best in this game at run blocking.
Yeah thats pretty great balance right there. I thought the passes were there though. They couldnt cover us at all. Joey should have easily went over 450 yards passing. Mike dropped a 60 yard bomb and Brazzell had a 60 yarder called back. Thats another 120 yards on his 330. If we include the other drops by TE's, RB's, & Staley he might have thrown for 500 yards & 4TD's on 40 pass attempts.

Yeah I actually wish Joey would've thrown a few more swing passes today.
One play that always seems to work against us is dragging a TE across the field, but yesterday, that misdirection that sealed the game for bama was a thing of beauty. I'm sure Heupel notes the creativity that works when he's scouting opponents. Wouldn't be the least bit too proud to kibitz.

2 interceptions
2 defensive TDs
2 lost possessions to special teams errors (muff and fake punt)

Each of those plays limited our total number of plays.

We only ran 71 plays. 40 passes and 31 runs. I thought our balance was fine. Just didn’t get the ball a lot.

The less you run the pigskin, the more you throw it. The more you throw it, the greater the chances are for dropped passes and INT's., even if they are the result of deflections.

Therefore, running the ball more causes less interceptions. Also is better clock management providing you can get first downs. Lord know we have the backfield - do we have the blockers? (yes)

Bishop and Thomas should be getting 80% of the touches going forward. I am tired of the runningback rotation being inflexible and unresponsive to the way players are actually performing.

It felt like we abandoned it at times. There was a specific sequence where we were up 20-17 in the 3rd quarter, we hit a long throw to Mike Matthews to put us on State's side of the ball. To me, this is a perfect opportunity to try and control the clock and wear down State's defense in the run game.

Instead on 1st down we immediately go back to the pass game for another long throw and end up taking a sack. This leads to us being behind the sticks, panic sets in, and we throw the ball again the next down which leads to an interception and a frustration penalty by Lance Heard. At that point it felt like Heupel gave up on running the ball.

I'm with you. Perfectly happy with the play calling. Even one of the interceptions was caused by Kitselman flinching from the hit.

I think they tried running but we’re just not effective for most of regulation. Had we connected on some of the passes that were dropped or called back, we would have been up by a few scores and likely would have run the ball more
