Why did we quit running the G. Jones qb play in the second half?

We put it all in one man's hands, and he failed. Our running game was being manhandled. I would of mix in the Jones play a few times and then set them up for a play action deep pass while everyone is in the box. :ermm:

I wondered the same thing. We should have used that package more.

Why? because we still had a chance to win...how many games this year have we been up at the half or even tied and throw it away the 2nd half? The SoCAR game, KY just to name 2. I don't know my thoughts are jumbled right now.

Because Cutcliffe grooms future HOF NFL's QB's not gimmicky offenses made popular by Gus Malzhan and Urban Meyer. Even when they yeild 5 plus yards a play.

Cutcliffe, greatest OC, ever.

I agree. I really thought we were setting it up to run a play action pass. Should have ran it more, they were not prepared for it. Ahhh, maybe next year.

The G-Gun is the name of that formation. EA was interviewed about it last month and indicated that it is a last resort type thing. I got the idea from his comments that he may resent direct snaps to anyone other than himself. just a snippet:

The G-Gun, as it's been dubbed by the media, is an offensive package in which freshman receiver Gerald Jones lines up at quarterback and the quarterback slides to receiver.
Ainge said the G-Gun should only be used when the Vols traditional offense is struggling.
"We have a lot of stuff like that," the senior said Tuesday as he previewed Saturday's game against Arkansas. "I don't see that being a big part of what we do while I'm in the game."

same old, same old...fulmer is just too conservative, but that's a former offensive lineman's mentality for you. if you want originality in an offense, hire a former QB as coach, like spurrier. it's obvious.

If Jones was a starter at WR, then have him line-up under center and Ainge at WR a play or two a game has potential. As long as it is a quick snap.

I would love to see Berry at QB...anyone see his high school tapes? Nice! But not tall enough...

Yeah, if it's me (and it ain't)...Cut is gone, Slade gets his bags packed tomorrow, and Chavis is gone.

Sorry, but JMO.

go vols.

Well, I notice Jones didn't have any interceptions.

The two by Ainge cost us 8 points...

...and the game.

If Fulmer stays (and he will), a condition of his return should be that Cut and the Chief don't.

Again...won't happen.

go vols.

:eek:lol: I agree to point.

I've got mixed feelings on both. Cutcliffe is a damn good QB coach and a disciplinarian. This team needs someone who will chap someone's ass. Cut will. If he's gone, just make sure you replace him with somebody that will do the same.

Chavis saved his job as the season wore on IMO. His defenses have always been pretty damn good, except against spread/option teams. I'd give him another year to try and stop it.

Really, more than anything else, the way coaches have changed after this season, I'd wait till next year before making a change in the coordinator spots. It's looking like slim pickings for good coordinators right now.

1. Berry is not a better QB than Gerald, look at the films and look at the stats... 2. There was a statement posted of the more you run the formation the less it would work.. Completely Wrong.. He is averaging almost 12 yards per carry when he runs it. He averaged 20 yards per carry against one of the best defenses in the country.. 3. Gerald is a very very very good thrower so it has no limits. Its not geralds throwing ability that is limiting the effectiveness of this formation its Coach Cutcliffe. Im not sure if he is ready to let Gerald throw it or what but he has stated that Gerald is a NATURAL QB and that Gerald can throw the ball very well and this is coming from a QB Guru..
