I've watched a few games today and UT is returning more kicks than anyone else. We're even bringing them out of the endzone instead of taking the 25. It hurt is a few times tonight and I simply don't understand the reasoning. Anyone with an idea?

Perhaps a "coaching moment"?????

I will add the question why so few punt returns? Is our blocking scheme on punts the issue, are we playing the wrong players on punts? Don't know, but it is impossible that our special teams in this game could have contributed so little (except field goal, give them credit for those successes tonight)

Risk vs reward how can you score in a return if do not try? The players take it of a lane is open. Can’t blame for trying but sometimes just take the free 25

Butch players go sleeveless in Sub zero temps. Pruitt's don't wimp out on KRs.

Because we aren't being coached correctly. Especially after that half. If there is one thing I do if I'm Pruitt, I make sure Shamburger doesn't field a kickoff.

I can blame them since teams with better players aren't doing it. That risk turned into a turnover inside our 20 when were needed the ball. There seems to be no need to risk it given our struggles all over the field

For all his faults, we had good special teams under the last coach

I was wondering the same thing. We already need all the yards we can get , and then we end up further from the end zone.

Sincerely a legit thread after all the meltdown threads. I have no answer, but it irks me. Take the free 25, unless you have a Berry type back there.

100% right. It makes no sense to return anything but a bad kick. I'd put the return man at the 5 and tell him not to field anything over his head and fair catch anything directional outside the numbers.

The results weren't good in this case, definitely. I don't think any of them made it to where they could have put it for free.

This made me as mad as anything because it is a failed teaching lesson.

Our kick return is not good, take the ball at the 25 with no turnovers!!!!!

That's the thing nobody considers. Everybody gets hung up on the yardage, but avoiding the chance for turnover is just as big.

Just because I was interested this morning I went back through our returns. Really struggling to see the advantage

4 touchbacks so those start at the 25

Other returns were to the 23, 21, 19 (with a fumble), and 15 (with a penalty so we started from the 8).
