Why are we letting this information out the building?

Why do we allow any of this to get out of the athletics office? Sure, maybe you see it as generic, we already know this, information... But why do we have to have news articles just giving our opponents a peak into our process? Why do we have news articles giving out specific dollar amounts we will be allocating to football? Do you see articles like this coming out of Georgia? Alabama? Ohio State? Not a chance those operations would allow that information to get out. There is just no reason to have it outhere, it offers you zero competitive advantage. It's the little things like this, the little things....

"$13.5 million in player payroll allotted to the Vols roster under a salary cap."

"After Heupel and his staff determine a pay range for each player, UT’s NIL office negotiates the player contracts. There’s wiggle room for the top prospects but very little for those who aren’t as coveted. UT makes a competitive offer in both instances. But the NIL team simply follows instructions from Heupel and his staff to get a deal done."

"Bowling said the “golden goose” for universities are “repeatable NIL deals,” which are businesses that do endorsement agreements with UT athletes every year."

"“The standard is monthly (deposits) with maybe a little bit more money up front to help you get moved in or get here,” Bowling said. “Or maybe a little bit more money at the end – kind of a ‘finishing the deal out’ money.”"

"UT encourages athletes to opt for monthly payments to learn how to budget their money."

"As head coach, Josh Heupel gets the final say on player pay. But that doesn’t mean every decision on every player ultimately reaches his desk."

I don't see anything in that article worth reacting to, to say nothing of get worked up about.

If I were ranking things in my life that I wanted to complain about, that article would not make the list. It wouldn't even make the list of things to consider for making the actual list.

I’m curious what the competitive advantage would be to keeping any of this private?

All the players are already comparing offers with each other anyway.

Matching or dispelling rumors with reality demonstrates integrity.

What part of that was a surprise? Which part do you think was the secret sauce and any different than every other school?
I don't think any of it is a surprise. I don't think any of it is a secret sauce. I think every decision, every day needs to be made with intent and purpose, to gain a competitive advantage. Allowing any information is just counterintuitive. It's this lack of attention to detail and process that this program is missing.

Maybe a strategic leak to lobby for more $$$ to work with? Especially since Lane has a reported $25 million to dole out at LSU.

What part gives UT a competitive advantage? If you had given me just the title I could have guessed the process

I think you may be suffering from confirmation bias.
