Why are people considering Strong?

Yeah, it would be awesome to get Patterson here. It would take real money and I don't know if the boosters/athletic department understand enough about football to see that this guy is worth real money. I'm afraid that they'll go the easy route and just take Petrino because he'll be cheap and they know he'll say yes. Alot of these are the same chumps that hired Dooley, after all.

I think the drama that sounds Petrino will keep UT from pursuing him despite the upfront price in lieu of a back-end cost. I really hope they aren't considering him. Our university can't stand another inverted-poop-your-pants-rollercoaster-twist.

At first thought I didnt think patterson would leave tcu. Besides if he hasn't left by now he won't leave ever but there is one thing that stance might be missing. Does anybody think the drug issues his program has faced might lead him to think a change of Scenery is needed??

He might feel some bitterness toward the school, media, or community regarding that situation.

I have heard that is indeed why he is at least now willing to listen to other opportunities. There were rumors that he wanted the job after Fulmer left. It would take a near 25 million dollar commitment to Patterson to get him here. I could not think of any reason he would not be an ideal candidate. I would take Patterson over Strong in a heartbeat. Petrino is the wildcard IMO. Those making the decision just have to sit down and feel the guy out. See where he is and figure out if the risk is worth the reward. Petrino would cost about 1/2 what a Patterson would. I think if the clauses are in the contract to protect UT in the event Petrino screwed up or wanted to leave, I say go for it. If he wants to win 9-10 games here for a couple years then leave, I would take 10 million dollars and let him go. JMO

They're undefeated until they play a SINGLE one of the teams we have lost to this year, and they're done.

What a stupid argument. If Kansas st played all the teams we have this year they wouldn't be undefeated either so I guess that means they don't have a good coach.

And notre dame should have never hired brain kelly, he coached at cincinnati for God's sake.

Has there been published reports of his displeasure about that situation??

I haven't heard that info just thought it might be worth discussing.

I have only read about it on 2 different TCU boards. For a long time TCU fans never seemed to worry about Patterson leaving. This year seems to be very different. There are alot more people who think he would consider other options with all that went on there. I like to think if he wanted the job before, he would listen to an offer now.

Remember when UF hired that coach from Utah?

What a disaster that was.

+1

I like the idea of hiring Butch Jones. He makes 1.6 million a year. 2.5 per and a 5 year deal and he would be in Knoxville IMO.

Remember when LSU hired that coach from Michigan State, with a mediocre 34-24 record in the garbage Big 10?

You know those LSU fans were estatic when he left Baton Rouge for the Alabama job.

We’ll not have any of that crazy talk around here. You know that the BIG 10 is so much harder to win in than the Big East. I made the same point and got ripped that the two don’t compare. You know it’s harder to recruit to Michigan St than it is to Louisville and Kentucky has more football talent than Michigan. Also all Gurden has to do is flash that super bowl ring and we get every top player in the country or that Strong’s recruiting will not improver if he comes to UT but all the others ones will. He is just too unproven to get a shot at Tennessee.

Well, according to a majority of the posters on here it does. What coach would have a winning record against:

@ UGA
@ Miss State
Bama
@ USCe

So you bring a new coach in with this schedule what would they do? Contrast that if UT's SEC schedule included Ole Miss & Auburn instead of Bama & Miss St.

I'm not a Dooley hater nor am I a sunshine pumper but sometimes the deck is stacked against you. This year's schedule was very tough and, yet, UT was in all 3 of the road games I listed above.

With the fan base in an uproar, I do believe UT needs to make a change. But what happens next year when UT goes to UF, Bama, Oregon, & Mizzou? UGA and USCe won't be easy...as usual.

So a new coach comes in (even Gruden) and he's staring at 7-5 or 6-6. What then, another buy-out and start over....AGAIN.

I love it when people make the argument that because he is in the easy Big East, that going undefeated isn't a big deal.

Can you please tell me what conference Louisville is in? The Big East, too? So Charlie Strong is beating the entire Big East with comparable players.

Give him the tradition, the assets, the campus, the fan obsession, and the facilities of Tennessee, and he'll bring you SEC-caliber players, which he has proven to be able to develop.

By many of y'all's logic, Urban Meyer should've never gotten the Florida job because he only coached at Utah.

He's using Big East players to carve up the Big East. Dooley would NOT be undefeated with Strong's team and schedule.

In my opinion,Strong is#1 on my list. Recruiting&defense wins championships. But I`m the nut that posted "how we can win NC in 3 years".

Ha ha. I didn't mention Mullen. :)

However, I think there is a possibility to get Gary Patterson. He's probably my most realistic and hopeful hire.

He is Arkansas top candidate right now according to a guest here on sportstalk in Ala. He may prefer staying in the midwest and Arky fits him perfectly.
