Why are people acting like Dobbs can't get better?

Here are what two of the best QBs in the SEC this year were doing at the same stage in their development as Josh (3 years removed from high school).

If Dak Prescott and Brandon Allen can go from that to being 3000 yard passers that complete 65% of their passes, then why can't Dobbs? I'd argue Dobbs is ahead of both as passers after 3 years of college. Which means he should be even better than both next year as a senior.

You folks don't realize when you have a good thing till its gone. Josh Dobbs will be the best QB in the SEC next year and one of the best in the nation. Appreciate him before its too late.

Glass is half empty internet coaches.

They'll find some weird stat to represent their case.

I believe Dobbs has a great year in 2016 but I like to think positive.

I've never once complained about Dobbs. In fact, I think you can pick any team in the country and they would love to have him as their starter. He's that good, imo.

If he gets better at his check downs and a little more accurate this offseason he will be one of the best in the nation. He's that close in my opinion.

Apples. Let Dobbs play a year with Clemsons schedule and see how his stats puff up. I'm not advocating that Josh would start for any team in the country - quite the opposite. I'm more for seeing his future development at UT and let the chips fall where they may. I happen to think that Josh is one of the best in the SEC.

He didn't say "trade" for their starters people. Sheesh, learn to read, he said any team would love to have Dobbs as their QB. And I agree. I bet you guys complain to your mama's about Christmas dinner. SMH

It's the whole glass is half full bs half empty cliche. What many fail to realize is the glass is refillable. That's just our bipolar fanbase. It gets rehashed and rehashed on the board thread after thread lol. Of course Dobbs can get better like anyone can with dedication and practice. Just like maybe our receivers can get better and catch the ball when it hits them in the hands.

Watson may be better than Dobbs, but there are reasons I wouldn't trade him. He's a Vol. He is very good and will hopefully become much better. He's is of great character and represents the University and Knoxville better than, potentially, any other player.

Without Dobbs at QB, Tennessee is 6-6 or 5-7. If he continues to improve, he could lead UT to 10+ wins in 2016.

I like Dobbs and I appeciate his ability to make plays at any given time. I also acknowledge that at times it seems like he couldn't hit the refrigerator standing in front of the kitchen sink. All in all, I rank him as above average because of his running skills. On a scale from 1-10, I would give him 7.5. He also tends to put the ball on the ground frequently but because we have tended to recover them, it isnt talked about very much.

Then when all hope seemed lost he became a competent QB afterall. Obviously Dobbs has not been as bad as Crompton during Fulmer's final year, so yes it is quite possible.

I personally would not say Dobbs will probably be a good pocket passer in 2016, but it is totally possible and I am hopeful.

Watson is better at understanding fronts and coverages & his throwing mechanics. Dobbs can improve @ all three over the off-season.
Watson plays in a league that is lot less tougher on defense. Dobbs plays in a league akin to a meat grinder. He can't change that this off-season (without transferring).
Dobbs is finishing up his first season as a full time starter. Big jumps in productivity occur normally in year two. And he ain't been too bad so far. Probably should get off his back and let him play out his career before we pass judgment on him.

Don't be absurd. Everyone should expect him to get better, just like every other player is expected to improve from one year to the next.

I expect Berry to improve on his returns, wait, that's absurd, to expect more returns for TDs.

Is it absurd to think Hurd will be better or stronger?

The real question is: Will the team continue taking steps foward together?

I think, yes. In many aspects of the game of football; blocking, tackling, passing, catching, and even FG%, there were obviously specific break downs in the execution of basic fundamentals.

Our kick return game was elite, why can't we get better there too?

It's my understanding that Dobbs has available to him the triple option based off what the defense shows, give to RB, keep it and run, or pass from the same formation. I have heard CBJ say that from year 1 to year 2 the QBs running his offense improve the most.

Would 2016 be considered Dobbs' 2nd year?

I also wonder, what % has Dobbs made the correct read?

I think we are in for something special in 2016, and there is no way in the world I'll be pumping any brakes.

I will give my all for Tennessee today!

I never said he couldn't, but I honestly believe the best of Dobbs we've seen (passing) is the best he's got. I just think his ceiling is not as high as some. Its fine, because his running ability, the TEAMS running ability and the assumption that the WRs get healthy and.perform at the level they should will NOT require him to be as great as Dak was forced to be this year (esp a solid D).

Kinda like Worley. If he had a good OL he would have been pretty good. Yet it was clear he was never going to be anything great. If Dobbs improves his passing game as drastically and some people thinks he needs to, he'll win the Heisman. I dont think he will.
