Maybe "hate" is a strong word, but I've wondered recently why so many Tennessee fans dislike Peyton Manning, even though he played for us. Can the people who don't like Manning shine some light as to why? I think I got a theory, but I'll wait for some responses to say what I think it is.

Because it's cool to hate. There are too many "likers" on this web site. Haters don't conform to anyone.

That being said, I'd have a tough time finding a TN fan that hated, or disliked, PM.

There are some on here that don't like him because, I guess, he didn't beat Florida and didn't get us a National Championship. We won one the next year and Manning went on to be, arguably, one of the NFLs most prolific passers, multiple-MVP won a Super Bowl.

Doesn't make a bit of sense to me... especially considering how much he represents UT both passively due to how prolific he is and actively.

I don't hate him ... he does the Vols and Tennessee proud each time he steps foot on the field along with the charity work he does ... I believe that he gets pushed to much by the public relations as trying to make him the face of Tennessee football ... he is one of the best players to come from UT but he never brought home the prize ... the QB who did has lived in his shadow for over the last 10 years now ...

The only time I dislike him is when he plays the Titans. Blasphemous, I know. :p

What? Every Tennessee fan I know loves Peyton, heck half the Colts fan base are Vol fans because of him.

I know the number of haters are way outnumbered by lovers, but I've seen a few that just don't care for him but I've never understood why. I personally love him too and don't see how fans of Tennessee can dislike Peyton.

There is nothing remotely arguable about any of the statements you made. Statistics back up the fact that he has accomplished all of those things.

I liked him at UT, absolutely freaking hate him in the NFL.

I've actually had this argument with fellow Tennessee fans before. I don't hate Peyton Manning but a lot of people have a stick up their butt when you don't cheer for teams fielding former Vols.

If they are successful, great. If not, oh well. They don't play for the NFL team I cheer for. There are tons of Colts fans and a slew of Chiefs fans popping up. Seems like a double standard when people say you need to support the Vols but mostly support Peyton/Berry. There are tons of former Vols representing Tennessee in the NFL.

I hate the Ravens but I think I'll make them my second favorite team to cheer for Mogran Cox. Long snap that pigskin brother!

That was my theory. And sorry to disrupt the Manning fans. Good to see more lovers than haters. :good!:

I believe that might be one of the problems ... College vs. NFL ... He didn't show the dominance in college like he has in the NFL ... its all how fans interprets his achievements. So many saw greatness while he was at the University and to them it didn't show till after he left ... they felt let down.

Are you sure it was Tennessee fans? Outside of Vol and Colt fans, just about everybody hates Peyton Manning. I'm surprised you've encountered multiple Tennessee fans that dislike him. That's odd.
