not sure anyone is really to blame...but there is plenty of blaming that will continue.
As one of the TAMU guys stated, and the commentators did as well, UA had their best, full game of the season...our VOLS just had to be on the receiving end of that.
Various other posts either point to injuries or "the next man up" theory. Well....it's a little of both. It's not an excuse; next man up must be ready, but when you're into your 3rd or 4th deep on some positions it is going to show, and show mightily when you play a team that has superior talent at just about every position and some damn fine players backing them up.
The O had a few, very few moments...I actually thought they ran the ball more effectively when Hurd and Kamara were in the backfield together...UA couldn't just key on one. The OL did get pushed around...doesn't help to have a few starters out but they should have done better. OTOH, I do think Saban's D this year may have the best front 7 he's ever had. I think 3 of those guys had the option to go last year, but didn't.
Our VOLS were pretty stout on D during the 1st half, even part of the 3rd Qtr. What I saw was more misalignment....leading to huge runs such as the one their QB had. May be scheme or may be because you had 3rd and 4th string LBs and DBs playing...against probably the best team in college football this year. I do think the lack of any offensive productivity took a toll on the D, which was already hamstrung a bit going in.
Coaching...well, can't say I saw any simblance of adjustment either....but, when nothing is working and you try something else...and it don't work...and almost half of your returning starters are injured / limited....WTF are you going to do.
So, all in all...I was embarrassed for our VOLS. They played, I didn't.....so, the sting I feel is much different. I had very high expectations, like many others. What I didn't count on were numer of key injuries...next man up, sure...but how many potential All Americans can a team lose before it starts effecting psychy, playing, et.al?
As I lick my fan wounds....just have to hang on some hope that a few of our key players can return, we have no further injuries and our VOLS win out! With a gator loss, our VOLS are back in the SECCG and who knows what happens from there.
GO VOLS!!
