You must have been watching a different game than the rest of us. JRM lead with his head and hit him helmet to helmet. That is the classic definition of targeting and will always result in an ejection.

I saw the replay multiple times and what I saw was a shoulder lean in. Was it a spectacularly hard hit, yes, but it was clean imo.
