On a final note

My kid placed 1st in his pack's pine wood derby, 11th at the district. Council is in May.

It was just over 5 oz but low enough not to register over, cause that's how we roll. Placed it mostly in the back just in front of the rear wheels tucked inside the "frame". Wheel base was stretched by drilling new axle holes and a large portion of wood was cut from the middle with a basswood veneer providing the base and top.

My sons been racing in the family league three years now because of his older cousins but was never able to win a trophy. I had zero issues getting him to work on his car because he told me this year he wanted to win a trophy. He's got 2 now. He's about to get a dose of humble pie at council races though because we live in NASCAR country and you can buy ready made cars about 10-15mph faster than his. Even at district he was getting smoked by cars that clearly were not built in a work shed.

I just assumed you'd taken the donkey show on tour. Who doesn't love a good, old-fashioned Tijuana donkey show? Takes special talent.

Someone should use this concept in my math thread. It was thought provoking although couldn't get you guys to play.

cool, this was our first year...and we were 4th out of 12. So I;m definetly goingto pay more attention to the axels next year..We're not able to change the axle holes...

I honestly wish we weren't all the stuff we did was to simply be competitive in this NASCAR race crazy council. Even then he's about to get smoked.

Cheap tool and easy for the kids is get some hobbyist sand paper from hobby lobby goes from like 400 to like 15kgrit. Stick the axles in a drill cut a little strip and your son can polish axles and watch cartoons.
