It will either be RS FR Josh McNeil or walk-on Michael Frogg. Not set in stone who starts though.

If Ligon moves to LG that means the coaches are concerned about the progress not being made by our guards other than Foster. Ligon will either play C or LG and it will depend if another C or LG steps up.

I don't see it being Mayo, he didn't really impress me in high school. Everybody else is losing weight so does Frogg still weigh in at 340?

If Frogg is 340 and he plays can he be quick enough to deliver the ball and cut off a DT let alone pick up a blitzing LB? Gimme linemen that can fundamentally block well at 250-275, their quicker, have better stamina in the 4th qrtr, and they allow you options in trap blocking and pulling blockers. 300 is too heavy unless your 6-6 or taller...IMO

I think it will be McNeil. I think our 2 deep will look like this:

LT-Sears
Scott

LG-Ligon
McLendon(Hubbs said he thinks he will be in the 2 deep)

C-McNeil
Frogg

RG-Foster
Parker(really challenging Foster, lost alot of weight)

RT-Young
Jones

Guys you are asking alot for McNeil to start by the Cal game. I think he will end up being a great center. Hopefully, he will be starting before the season is over. But, he is behind in terms of strength because he could not work out fully while recovering from shoulder surgery. And, Fulmer has said he is still behind mentally because center is such a 'knowledge intensive' position. I think our best scenario is for Ligon to start against Cal and then work McNeil in for 3-4 games. Review his play in those games. If he is ready, move Ligon to guard and start McNeil. That would work great.

Ligon isn't much into the equation at this point. The coaches really want McNeil to start but, if not, it will be Frogg with McNeil coming in off the bench. They need Ligon at guard because of a lack of depth at guard.

I think it will be McNeil. But, I have not attended one practice so I don't really know squat.

Yeah but here is the problem. If Ligon starts at C, who will start at G with legit experience other than Foster? Ligon is our only LG with legit interest and the backup at LG right now is likely a true freshman whereas the backup at C is a rs freshman.

good point. i am not sure then warrior. then fogg will start or mayo. probably fogg.

but i say mcneil will more than likely be starting by game 3 and finish the season. too much talent not to.u are definetly right about ligon and lg though.

I don't think Mayo will play too much at UT. He came in way too small and still isn't ready. Here is a list of our linemen, class, and sizes(or what the UT site says):

Josh McNeil FR 6-4 290
Eric Young JR 6-4 310
Malcolm Rawls FR 6-5 315
David Ligon SR 6-5 300
Cameron Mayo SO 6-4 290
Steven Jones JR 6-4 305
Michael Frogg JR 6-4 300
Anthony Parker SO 6-3 305
Arron Sears SR 6-4 320
Ramon Foster SO 6-6 325
Chris Scott FR 6-5 325
Ramone Johnson FR 6-4 305
Jacques McLendon FR 6-3 325
Darius Myers FR 6-6 320
Cody Pope FR 6-5 270
Jarrod Shaw FR 6-4 330

Here is my depth chart:

LT:
Arron Sears
Chris Scott
Ramone Johnson

LG:
David Ligon
Jacques McLendon
Malcolm Rawls

C:
Josh McNeil
Michael Frogg
Cam Mayo

RG:
Ramon Foster
Anthony Parker
Darius Myers
Jarrod Shaw

RT:
Eric Young
Steven Jones
Cody Pope

IMO, Johnson, Pope, Myers, and Shaw will redshirt. Johnson will have to gain some strength, Pope has to gain weight, Shaw has to lose weight. Myers may be the closest to not redshirting. McLendon seems ready for the 2 deep because of his strength and size(though he may have to lose a few pounds before the season starts).

Good info. I agree with the redshirts except Myers. He had a tremendous year at Hargrave. He was overweight and not very fundamentally sound coming out of high school. I think he gained enough strength and learned enough to contribute with the lack of depth we have on the OL. You include Shaw, but is it 100% decided that he is playing OL? I know he wanted to play DL and we told him that was where he would get his first shot.

I agree with this. There are a ton of good OT and OG who are shorter than 6'6" and are 300+ plus, but hardly any centers. One of the heaviest C's in the NFL is LeCharles Bentley, and he's 6'2" 313. I think all the other centers are lighter. Frogg's weight would be fine at OT, but at C .. ehhhhhh.

LeCharles Bentley is also all pro. We don't have the luxury of having an all pro center.

On another note, Hubbs said he thinks that Parker has moved ahead of Foster for the RG spot because Foster hasn't lost the weight that was asked of him to lose. He feels that Jones and Scott would not be the backups at the tackle positions, but that Foster would be the tackle off the bench. He has also said that if Vlad doesn't get healthy and inshape that he will be moved to the OL.

Do you mean Vladimir Richard? If so, that's disappointing. I saw this guy at practice last year and he was an unbelievable physical specimen. I couldn't believe he was a freshman, because the guy was more ripped than any player out there. I'm excited to see what he can do when he finally gets on the field.
