Who will play Defensive Tackle?

Maybe you missed Nick Marshall up the gut for 80 yards?

Or we can talk about the season...He has 1 sack and 20 total tackles in 10 games.

A defense gives up 900+ yards in 3 games and "Big Dan" has 1 tackle. FIRE THE COACH!

You people...

Of course anyone that points out that we have an over rated waste of space and then uses stats to back it up must be a gator fan or a troll.

Did you two geniuses marry yer sisters?
{that's a troll}

Volquest is also trolling:

Vols' D-line has to close express lanes

VQ is saying fire the coach?

1 big DT in the middle is not a bad thing, with faster DT's on the outside of him and much faster DE's. Get a big guy to absorb 2 Olineman and someone else make the play. McCullers has been doing that but he's been taking way to many plays off this year. I don't think his stamina is anywhere it should be and he's not aggressive enough for someone his size. That being said, our current DE's are almost as slow as he is.

I'll just be happy when we can actually get pressure to the QB again. Seems like such a long time ago.

Doesn't make any sense to me but I hope it works out. Neither does signing 40 something players but in Butch I trust.

IIRC Jason Croom played in 3 early games last year, but then had a shoulder injury in mid-October & didn't play the rest of the year. Qualified for a medical RS.

How soon so many forget that Malik Jackson played DT great for us at 275-280 lbs. and is now raising he!! in the NFL. Chill - Strib/Jones have this. You need a 310 +- lber to play the 3 technique and the 280-290 lber for the 5. The lighter DT can sub outside at DE when needed depending on the situation.
5-tech is a defensive end. If your d-tackles are playing a 3 on one side and a 5 on the other then you'd have a big ole hole.

Actually, it's the opposite. You want lighter D-linemen for the 4-3. Go back and look at the line we had back in '98, which was a true Chavis-style line built on speed/power.
You're absolutely right. Plus, good d-lineman can play in any scheme. I'm talking about our ends/tackles would theoretically be good fits in 3-4 because they are jumbo defensive ends who will play tackle with us. But if they're good they can play anywhere, and with the frames they have they won't be undersized once they get on the field next year.

I do not think this is true for a legit NFL 3-4 NT - they are just not a body that makes sense in a 3-4 scheme

a la why posters that don't know crap about it keep thinking big dan isnt any good

he is a very good player - his length, strength, and arm extension are exceptional - he can take on double teams and can push a guard into a backfield

but he is being asked to play way too many plays and asked to play a position he isnt really capable of playing

simple as that

EDIT - if mo couch is still here i think we see a big difference in big dan as his play count would be way down and people wouldnt think he is lazy - he would also be in when the situations are more conducive to him being a factor

Do you actually understand the stipulation/qualification for being 'injured' and getting a redhsirt for freshman?

I am all for the redshirt. If there is an injury that hasn't been disclosed or we can make up something good then that certainly benefits our team.

Crooms injury was common knowledge. Just saying I haven't heard anything about Carr or Miller. I hope it works out.

0 tackles in 2 games would suggest otherwise

you really need to understand what big dan is capable of and what he is built to do - a good comparison would be Phil Taylor

he is a 1st round pick NT on Cleveland's defense that is 3rd in the NFL right now and top 10 in basically every category

do you know what his "stat" line is?

10 solo tackles

8 ass tackles

2 sacks

through 9 games

big dan so far

4.5 TFL, .5 sacks

17 solo

9 asst
