Who will Kiffin run off next?

Chances are Ayers would have made it with the current staff and probably would have made it sooner rather than later.

You have to believe that of all the things we hear about the players there are sooooo many more that are taken care of. So when a coach decides to rid himself of a player I'm fine with it.

Yeah, I hope Kiffin is giving the players an opportunity to develop. After all, he did promise everyone a clean slate. Unfortunately, sometimes it just takes time for the coaching to sink in...

While I agree that Kiffin is doing the right thing by instilling disclipline in this team, I do not agree with him cutting ties with players who do not buy into his system 100% from day 1.

you mean his system of working hard and giving it all during practice, in the weight room and in the classroom? You mean committing to be the best they can for UT football? Yeah, he should definitely let them ease into it

I saw it in Ayers every time he played prior to last year. He was always tough to block and productive when he was in. I don't pretend to be able to read the minds of the former staff, but Ayers could have started for many SEC teams his Jr. year IMO.

Like I said, Ayers "eased into it" for FOUR years and developed late. Do you wish that the coaches had given up on him early because he slacked off on and off the field and got arrested as a freshman? My point is that it takes different kids different amounts of time for the coaching to sink in... Kiffin's kicking off players who don't immediately buy into his system is the easy way out - coaching them through the challenges is much more difficult and could (though not always the case) result in success stories like Ayers.

It depends. We don't know the extent of Ayers' transgressions versus those of the guys Kiffin has jettisoned.

These are college kids and to expect that every player will not slip up from time to time is unrealistic. That's what coaching is for - mentoring and coaching the kids to become better football players and people so they have the skills for success after their football careers. The challenge for the coaches is to work with these kids to get the best out of them despite early struggles or immaturity.

This is a good point.

I don't think telling players they are going to get kicked off the team if they don't work harder is always the best method to get them to succeed. It takes time, you need to be patient, to get players to buy into the program completely. Once the players respect their coach they will go to war for him.

I unsually don't enter into the unconfirmed gossip mill BUT a guy I work with played with Rod Wilks at Smyrna ( that is where we are from ) He said Rod is unhappy and talking about moving back to Smyrna . He wants to be a receiver and that does not appear to be what is happening .

Will give ya'll move scoop on this as I hear .

Again , unconfirmed info ...all I can confirm is that my friend is good friends with RW ( he showed me texts on his cell and they played at SHS at the same time ) However the 'unhappiness' bit is 2nd hand stuff

I personally don't care if he is happy or unhappy,, but besides that, what is in Smyrna? Is there a school there where he can play TO?
