Obviously, there's an obvious answer here, but hear me out.

Hurd's talent/power/speed is undeniable, but the same can be said for Kamara. Kamara has gone fairly underlooked because everyone looks at our team and sees Hurd as the stud back. But I can't help but feel like Butch doesn't feel the same way.

Kamara was named Team Captain, even though he's newer to the team than Hurd. He was given the Leadership Award as a non-starter. Kamara was with JRM at NSD. He clearly has "earned it" off the field in regards to the spirit of the team, stepping up, leading the youngsters, etc.

So we have two backs, both talented/strong/fast, and one of them is clearly displaying the necessary leadership to be the starter. Does anyone else think Kamara gets the nod on the first snap against Appy State?

Hurd is our premiere back. He's our starter. I think if Kamara were to get the first snap against App St it would be because the coaches want to start the game with a certain play or package that he is included in. I don't think it would be because he is our number 1 back, even though he is a team leader and a great back in his own right.

What if they're both in the backfield on the first snap??

I know what you mean. AK is something special, as well as Hurd. Could they both start? Hell yeah. Does it really matter? Not sure, they seem to feed off each other really well.

3 of the captains were guys who skipped the draft. All 4 will be seniors. You think that's just a coincidence? Got some big names that can go pro early next year. Sounds like Butch is trying to give them a reason to stay for their senior year in 2017

Kamara's a redshirt junior. RS year at Bama, one year at CC, going into his second year with us.

Forgot he redshirted at Bama. Ok the other part still stands, 3 guys that could have gone pro came back. Butch rewarded that, possibly as a sign to the juniors that can after this year

I could see us start them both the first snap this year, Hurd will get the first carry, and the majority of the carries.

The only way he doesn't, is if he gets injured

Kamara isn't a senior. He'll have another year of eligibility after this season.

CBJ is giving Kamara some well deserved acknowledgment for being a SR leader on our team. Hurd is the most gifted runner of the two.

Man, I know I'm about to get blasted for this comment but here goes...

I'm not so sure I would say Hurd is the most gifted runner. Honestly I think Kamara is just as gifted, just a different type of back all around.

No way. I cannot phathom that Hurd not get the first snap. Even if they are both on the field for the first play. No reason to disrespect the man that got you here. From day one, when everyone was not (could not do) doing their job, Hurd has. He carried the team when no one else could. They are both phenomenal talents but, Hurd has earned that simple gesture of respect. What would be the purpose? To trick the other team? It would be like letting another QB take the first snap ahead of Peyton just because the team they were playing couldn't defend against a running QB very well?

OK. I'm done. I feel better now.

Who really cares about which one is better. They both will be in the NFL, and when they both run over 1,000 yards this year i will be tickled pinker than my daughters birthday balloons.

Respectfully disagree. AK is the more gifted runner of the two. He's quicker, shiftier, likely faster, certainly a more elusive runner IMO. Otoh, Hurd is a physical freak with a great skillset for his size and, given his production and importance to the offense over his first two seasons, he deserves to be the focal point of the running game.

Also, AK is a leader but he's not a senior.

No way Kamara comes back for his senior season. He will declare for the draft after the 2016 season. Heck, probably both he & Hurd will declare for the draft after this upcoming season. They both could be drafted pretty high. Hurd probably 1st & then Kamara not too far behind.

i think it's a moot point. who walks on the field for the first snap really doesn't matter. they'll both line up, they'll replace each other and they'll, i'm sure, try to get each of them as many touches as humanly possible......they have different skill sets, that utilized together, with an efficient (doesn't have to be dynamic) passing game, could be very difficult to stop.

this offense could be scary good if the passing game develops any consistency, and makes defenses respect it.
