Who is the heaviest drinker of all time?

There's no single "biggest drinker," but wrestler André the Giant (André Roussimoff) is legendary for his capacity, reportedly downing 119-156 beers in hours and consuming 7,000 alcohol calories daily; other famous heavy drinkers include Winston Churchill, Ernest Hemingway, and historical figures like Ögedei Khan, though records are anecdotal and excessive drinking is dangerous.

Legendary Heavy Drinkers:

André the Giant: Famous for feats like 119 beers in six hours and immense daily alcohol intake, earning him titles like "The Greatest Drunk on Earth".

Winston Churchill: Known for steady, high consumption, often starting his day with whiskey and soda.

Ernest Hemingway: The famous writer's life and work were deeply intertwined with heavy drinking.

Frank Sinatra: A notable drinker, famously loyal to Jack Daniel's.

Errol Flynn: The actor consumed large amounts of vodka and wine, even injecting vodka into oranges to sneak drinks.

Historical Figures:

Ögedei Khan (Genghis Khan's son): A Great Khan known for his legendary drinking habits, says this article.

Peter the Great: The Russian Tsar was notorious for heavy drinking, noted here.

"In December 2004, a 67-year-old man in Plovdiv, Bulgaria was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries he suffered following a car accident. The man appeared to be fine and communicated coherently with doctors, yet his BAC was recorded at 0.914%. Assuming the testing equipment was malfunctioning, doctors performed five separate lab tests to confirm the man’s BAC level."

0.9+% and still coherent. That kind of tolerance is otherworldly.

I’m a big fan of the Hardcore History podcast by Dan Carlin and his “Wrath of the Khans" is outstanding. The story about Ogedei, admitting he had a problem, and agreeing to limit his daily intake to only one cup….and then having a special GIANT ass cup made so that he could essentially drink one cup that would last all day…yeah, that’s a legendary boozer for sure!

Andre just by his sheer mass might win any outright face off.

Other than that WC Fields should probably be included. Probably Twain as well. IIRC Van Gough could wash it down, including a love of absinthe.

Hunter S Thompson probably deserves his own category.

Speaking of Ulysses S. Grant... little known fact. What President established the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming? Most people think Teddy Roosevelt.
