If Crompton doesn't get the chance to start after being here all this time and waiting for his turn, it'll be really hard to recruit new qbs in the future. I'm just saying..
I understand what you are saying, but at this point, we don't need to be treating the QB position like an entitlement. Just because he's been here 3 years, that doesn't mean he should get it on seniority. Let him battle for it an earn it in a fair competition. Find me a football player back there. Don't care about height, or arm strength that goes unused anyways, or seniority, or how much "potential" somebody may think he has.
Can the kid play football? Does he play with fire and toughness? Does he make plays? Is he a leader? We haven't been able to say any of that about our QB position the last few seasons. Just get me a QB that is gonna lay it on the line and play hard for the orange and white. Somebody that grew up wanting to play here. Somebody that would scammble for a first down if the play breaks down. I don't think that is too much to ask. Crompton and Coleman should be allowed this spring to have an honest/fair battle. No preconceived notions or prejudices. Whoever this Clawson guy thinks gives us the best chance to win, I'll be happy with because from what I have heard, both of these guys are Vols.

So playing the best player will push recruits away? If anything I'd think that would attract better talent.
Being senior to other players shouldn't be a sole reason to start.
Although should Clawson indeed want to give someone other than Crompton the start, I'd love to be a fly on the wall to hear the conversation between him and Fulmer.
I think Cutty and Fulmer are actually Coleman guys. Crompton was a Sanders recruit. So, if anything, it would not surprise me to see Coleman start over Crompton. As long as the QB gives us some toughness, play making ability, and leadership, that is all anybody could want at that position. We've needed that for a long time back there.
I wonder only about the mental aspects of Cromptons game. By all accounts he's tougher than Ainge, more mobile, good arm...yet couldn't beat him out. I was reading an account from a former Clawson QB who said he sometimes would take 8 plays to the line of scrimmage. No doubt he's waited his turn and is ready to get in there and prove it, I'm sure he'll get the chance and he deserves it.
Is this daddy Crompton?
Good God, a lot of bad statements in this thread.
Someone mentioned Crompton has the mobility. Coleman has MORE mobility, Crompton is very mobile, and Stephens the least.
Stephens won't start a game at UT unless both Crompton and Coleman are hurt/suspended.
Crompton will be your starting QB in 2008 and 2009, with Coleman ready in 2010 and 2011.
