that seems to be a very thin/weak position for us right now...I know Vareen is committed...who else...is it as bleak as it appears at this point?

lots of views...no answers...would love to hear what some of you guys think...this area has me a little concerned...seems we are reaching out to a lot of DBs but few LBs

Ball stays at Wisconsin, Trey Johnson to Ohio State, Ngakoue to South Carolina/Maryland, Levenberry stays at Florida State.

Those are the names that have surfaced and that's how I personally see it unfolding.

We might pull Jermaine Grace. I guess it is between us and Miami.

My only guess is that the staff has an idea of maybe making some positions changes with guys already on the roster, also moving back to the 4-3 helps a little on the depth. I just see us in the running with a few names but its a long shot.

What about Alden switching over to lb. If they decide to move people around. He has the size and speed

Going to hope bUTch has some kids from the Mid-West that would have went to PSU (LB U) but now will have an SEC offer !

Taking a closer look at our roster...here are a few questions...

-LaTroy Lewis (is he a LB or DE in the 4-3)
-Brent Brewer (Does he get moved to OLB)
-Tom Smith (could he be moved to LB-Chavis had good success moving RBs to LB)
-Alden Hill (same as Tom Smith)
-Justin King (does he get moved to LB...if not where does he play)
-Greg King (does he get moved back to LB)
-Raiques Crump (will he be anything other than a special teams guy)
-Dontavious Sapp (could he do well as an OLB)
-Channing Fugate (does he finally get on the field)
-John Propst (showed some potential but will he ever really contribute)
-Kenny Bynum, Christian Harris (2 young guys that are intriguing)
-Jordan Williams, Jacques Smith (moves to DE I assume)
-A.J. Johnson, Curt Maggitt (locks as starters)

It looks like we may have enough bodies but I worry if we only sign one LB...I worry even more about signing more than 1 LB if the extra guys are fillers like Crump and Sapp seemed to be.

If they had an offer from PSU they likely have an offer or two from an SEC school.

O'Brien and PSU may be restricted by limitations and the recent fall out, but the man is a good recruiter and isn't just going to lay down and take scrubs. Guy is still doing his job.

Deserved coach of the year IMO.

Alden has size speed and is physical, with the right coaching could make a good LB. I like the thought of brewer might be a little to undersized.

-LaTroy Lewis is a DE
-Brent Brewer is probably a LB
-Tom Smith is a running back
-Alden Hill is also a running back
-Justin King would move to LB the same way Brent Brewer would
-Greg King has been injured since the day he got here and isn’t a lock to make the team
-Raiques Crump fits this scheme better than the old one
-Dontavious Sapp started at OLB in 2011
-Channing Fugate finally gets on the field (where he has for two years now on special teams)
-John Propst is a 4-3 MLB
-Kenny Bynum, Christian Harris 2 young guys that are coming off injuries
-Jordan Williams and Jacques Smith are DEs and NOT JACK linebackers as the entire universe can attest
-A.J. Johnson and Curt Maggitt are locks as starters if A.J. can learn to get off blocks and Curt can get healthy

And Vereen is headed to campus very shortly.

Okay we looked at our current roster so lets look at who we have interested or are talking to:

Mitchell: 5*, has medium interest in UT but it doesn't seem like we have a legitimate shot
Levenberry Jr. : 4*, Was interested but did not hear from UT and lost interest after new staff was hired, but with Sal moving to FSU does it open his recruitment up?
Johnson: 4*, In a running with him, Thigpen was a big recruiter of him.
Ngakoue: 4*, has us listed in top 5, with Maryland, the U, USCe, and WVU
Grace: 4*, has said he was very interested in UT and is listening
Cunningham: 3*, has interest in UT. Favorites along Vandy, UCLA, and Ole Miss

****I pulled this off Scout from interest level, also these guys have been offered. There are some 3* LBs would do not hold UT offers that have shown interests. Also, I used their Rivals rating.

And as far as my 2¢ goes, I’m thinking they are going to pare the LB corps down to 9 schollies from now on. With all the players I think are on the roster there could be 11-12 LBs this year with 5-6 graduating or just moving on (Sapp, Fugate, Probst, Brewer, Crump, King). That would leave...
SR (2)
Johnson
Maggitt
JR (2)
Harris
King
SO (2)
Vereen
Bynam

That’s 6 players for 9 spots, a not-too-uncomfortable place depending on how the players they have develop. It also doesn’t include JRM or McNeil in case they make the conversion.

This staff tried to sign Bynam until the Vols swooped in and Santos’d him, and the only LB they kept from the old staff from this cycle was Vereen. So we can infer that those two are guys they think they can develop into starters. What that means is that, going forward, they can go after the best LBs they can find this year without having to fill roster spots. It also means that next year they’ll need to fill in the spots they didn’t get filled this year.

E.J. Lavenberry is a guy I can see us very well switching because of the Sal Sunseri hire at FSU. And I know this is gonna sound crazy but CTT is trying to get Reuban Foster to take a visit in January. He was a big deal with his recruitment at Auburn

I'd bet there will be more than one named moved to lb from another position again like last year.

He would have to appear on an episode of tattoo nightmares before I would allow him to come here.
