I'm 24, so I know age has something to do with it, but I HATE FLORIDA. I HATE THEM MORE THAN ANYTHING ON THE PLANET. If I could sell my soul to see them never win another game, I would. I wore all black (with a power T pin) in mourning the day after they won the national championship. I accidentally stumbled on a Florida message board the other day, and it infuriated me so much that my hands were literally shaking. At first I thought my hatred was due to Steve "You can't spell Citrus Bowl without UT" Spurrier, but I've realized it's much more than that. I hate that they are the nationwide darlings, and the media loves nothing more than to see them succeed. I hate the cockiness (and lack of class) on part of Florida fans, among other things. I hate them.
Alabama is definitely second on the list, and the older members of my family (parents, grandparents, etc.) who have memories of the pre-Florida days without a doubt hate Alabama more. I went to games and such when I was a kid, but my youth was shaped by Florida. My father (who hates Florida as well, but they come second to Bama) doesn't understand why I hate them SO MUCH. I can't explain it, it's pretty much a state of being.
My roommate attended Miami for a semester her freshman year, and had mentioned in passing to me that she had met someone who said she looked familiar and asked if she had gone to school in Florida. She said yes, but he thought she had gone to the University of Florida.
I swear to God, when I heard her breathe the words "University of Florida," my eye started twitching.
I feel like the poster who wrote that awesome "I hate Alabama" post stickied at the top of the board. If Gainesville were to disappear from God's green earth, I would raise my fist in celebration and say "Universe, job well done."
