If we have any sense at all, he'll be shooting over our zone.

Most of his dunks are lefty.

I'm not sure anyone can cover him. Probably sit back in a zone. But I'm not sure our zone would keep him from penetrating either. It's a lose-lose situation.

Wow, he is so good that nothing can stop him? I would bet that we will have a point guard on him. We aren't very good at zone defense and seldom even try.

Something can. I'm just not exactly sure WE can. I'm not confident enough in our defense to say we can stop anyone of Wall's caliber.

Nobody, but Maze and Goins will have to try, at least. We might want to consider using more zone against UK even though it's not Pearl's style.

play soft man on him and force him to shoot. Play some zone b/c they really are not good at the three-ball. I'm also worried about who is going to guard Bledsoe, he is quick.

I fully agree. Take away the drive and make him shoot outside. That is not his strength. Playing off him and giving him the outside shot is our best chance of taking away his scoring ability.

I say play the soft man with no zone. It would make it very difficult for us to keep them off the glass in a 2-3. I would go behind every ball screen on the perimeter and allow anyone on the roster to crank threes to stop dribble penetration. Then, I think you double the post with a wing leaving someone on the perimeter open; again forcing them to beat us from the perimeter. This may be easier said than done, but I think if we can actually do that, we stand a fairly good shot at winning.

Seth Davis supposedly said we are the team to beat in the SEC. So, why worry??

Zone them. We have too many folks that can't defend o the perimeter and they have two guys that can kill us there, but nobody who can shoot. We rebound poorly regardless what we're in because we have too many guys who want to get out on the break rather than board.

Pack it in and crash the glass.

Have you seen our efforts at zone defense? Kiffinator is correct, soft man-to-man---no zone.

Are you kidding me. Soft man is what we do now and our guards get killed. Softer would be quitting and rebounding won't get worse.

If we can't coach a respectable zone d, we desperately need far more help than I ever even considered.

From what I've seen of our zone, a soft man-to-man, as you indicate we now play, is much better.

They will kill us off the high pick and roll, no matter how soft we play. I mean murder. Wr don't know how to hedge and recover ad we leave both defenders in spots of teir largest possible disadvantage. Dumb stuff, over and over and over and over and over....

A soft man-to-man actually has some zone principals so thier pick-and-role efforts should not be there as we will have the middle closed.

So we can coach that but not a zone? Can you imagine the rebounding disaster under the principles you're espousing? How is it different, except weaker without area responsibilities?

It is different because you still guard man-to-man, but play off to shut down the driving lanes. You can pull your wing to double inside and leave Patterson or others to shoot the three. You guard man-to-man but play soft on the outside allowing the outside shot. You still have the same ability to rebound as you would in a tight man-to-man. KY won't beat you if you can hold them to outside shooting.

So again, how does this preclude our pick and roll silliness?

You are playing closer to the basket and don't allow them to spread the defense to allow successful pick and roll efforts.
