Logic tells me Pruitt is the head coach and should have full control over who he wants to hire. Along with that it would make sense for the AD to basically approve of the hire and not interfere (obviously to a certain extent).

But do you all think Fulmer is actually the one gonna make the hire (or have significant influence) or will he let Pruitt make the hire without much question at all?

Fulmer needs to stay out of it unless he wants to bring in a career criminal. And then only if the guy doesnt have a proven track record as a successful OC in a Power 5 conference.

Pruitt will get raises or fired based on how successful this team is. The OC is going to be a big part of that success or failure. The guy deciding the raises or when to drop the axe should have little to no input on the hire that will help decide the fate of the HC.

I think Pruitt will want to know Fulmer approves any potential hire before making offers. And I don’t think Pruitt would be likely to pursue someone Fulmer would veto (e.g. Kiffin who wouldn’t want to be our OC anyways).

Of course Pruitt will make he hire. If Fulmer doesn’t let Pruitt make he hire then we will be looking for a new HC if he has success.

Saban is the only coach with total control over his football program. You can bet Fulmer will have a say, and several others.

Considering that Pruitt is the one responsible for bringing in Helton, I don't see how having Fulmer's oversight can do anything but help.

I would think pruitt but it will have to be within budget. Tennessee historically is so cheap in hiring coaches that this will most likely be a hire from within or high school guru. These big names folks are throwing out is by folks that dont pay attention to history. Just name one instance where they have open the checkbook except
To payoff there screw ups.CC0B4559-CCE6-4779-A075-663830C0DE4D.jpeg

Who cares? The hire is going to be underwhelming and likely a failure.
I've gotta say that this is about my confidence level. That being said, even the good hires, like Shoop, haven't panned out too well. If I had to write a resume for our OC, who will focus on run and balanced offense, it would be two of our former OC's...Cutcliff and Chaney. Get a guy like them and we'll be in good shape. Pruitt and Fulmer have strong tendancies towards balanced attack, so the "air raid" type guys don't line up...just my opinion.

I could also see Pruitt going with a solid hire, but someone not on our board...it's kinda how he put his staff together, and did a nice job. I just don't want to have to have mental gymnastics trying to justify how someone with average previous experience will all the sudden be outstanding...Scott, for example.
