Whisky, bourbon or scotch and what's your favorite?

Arette is my favorite budget but it pushes $30. Zarpado is a nice one at $25. I’ll be interested to see what that $20 one of yours is!
I'll be passing that way this evening. I'll stop and check the label.

My poison is a good bourbon. Woodford Reserve Double Oak and Knob Creek Maple were recent donations by Santa. Wife nabbed me this one upon recommendation by the store clerk and it’s more reasonable priced than my favorites, but right up there with them.

Gotta get ya on the Green River for even cheaper and more flavor

@mrMet

Got a few of my cheapies I like a good bit.

That tequila is El Ultimo. I've only had the Blanco thus far. Seems a good bit of folks like the respado's better in their brands of choice. For Vodka it’s Luskasawa. Smooth. Polish. Potato and cheap. New Amsterdam on the gin. Not alot of Gin down the throat, but this is is quite smooth and sippable neat for the money. Travelers, Legent, and Woodford Reserve Rye on other bourbons or whiskey. I don’t spend over $40 after taxes on anything. And the cheaper the good find the better. Hence my vodka, tequila and gin go to selection. For 10 year single malt scotch at $30 you cannot best Aerstone. I prefer the Sea Cask. It is barelled and aged seaside. Their Land Cask is peated for the braver souls. A relatively unkonwn gem of a Scotch distiller.

The Tequila is $20 Don't see a need to try anything more expensive. Store employee drinks this and recommended it.
The Gin & Vodka are $15 (If it's going down the hatch cheap and neat, I'm totally good on only these two choices)
Legent Bourbon and Traveller Whiskey are $35ish. Legent doesn't get much publicity but is quite good. Traveller is a relatively new country singer brand.
Aerstone is $30ish (comes in a box) Very hard to beat in Scotch for the money. Irish and Scotch are my preferred but I've been trying bourbons.
Woodford Rye is around $40 after tax and pushes the upper limit i'm willing to pay but is worth the nod.

And if you need a liqueur mixer that calls for the flavor profile, Elderflower liqueur is very nice. Especially in a Gin Fizz.

Met the founders of Four Branches Bourbon the other day. Seemed to be a pretty cool bunch of former special operations guys who developed a bourbon with a good story and purpose.

I work with a guy that went to school with one of them. Haven’t tried or seen the bourbon though.

That's a great story behind the business. Hopefully they'll continue their trade for many years.

Talking bourbon distillers, I ran into Charles Medley at the Carnegie Hotel bar in Johnson City just before Thanksgiving last year. I was in town for a job interview and, on a whim, headed downstairs for a nightcap, and the only other person there aside from the bartender was Mr. Medley. He was on the way to North Carolina to spend Thanksgiving with some family. He had some great stories about his family's history related to distilling bourbon, his trips around the world marketing it, and (of course) college football.

Not a safe topic for me. Home bar is out of control. At the peak of my collecting I had to do the cancer dance (beat it) and since I finished treatment I found I don't enjoy more than 1-2 drinks a week. My friends are trying to put dibs on their desired bottles so this is kind of a poll of their favorites.

The most popular are:
Bourbon ---- Old Fitzgerald Bottled in Bond (multiple bottles)
Scotch ------ The Macallan 18 yr
Whiskey ----- Hibiki 17 yr Blended

Personally I prefer
Michters 12 yr bourbon (if you can find it)
Mortlach 18 yr scotch
Redbreast 18 yr Irish whiskey

I really like wheated bourbons. but have yet to try pappy van winkle. anyone here that has?
Have tried all but the 23 yr. I like heated bourbons as well, but Pappy is a trophy bourbon now. The 23 goes for $10,000 on the secondary market. I am just not skilled enough to taste that difference. The younger ones are good, but not something I would walk a mile for. Had the 20 at the "Bourbon Kiosk" at Keeneland. Was having a very good day at the track and bought a round for me and two friends. $300 a shot. Once again, very good, but beyond my expertise to make it worthwhile. Funny thing is the bartender takes a picture of the buyer and posts it behind the bar so I don't guess they sell a lot of them.
