OK, moving into a new place and am looking for a new TV. Basically, it has come down to 2 choices.

Vizio 40 inch LED smart TV (with internet and apps)

OR

Vizio 42 inch LED without apps or anything like that

Both are $349.00.

I'm up for any other suggestions if they are around that price too!

Do you have a PS3 or anything else that allows you to watch Netflix or youtube or anything like that? If not, id take the 40" with the apps, JMO

You can get an Internet capable bluray player or stream through ps3 so smart tv is not necessary.

I have a Samsung LED 48" and it has a much better picture than my buddy's Vizio. IMO. It was also more expensive.

I am selling my Xbox so I figured it would replace the Netflix and YouTube on it. Kind of leaning towards the 40 inch with apps too.

Best advice I can give is get the one you want. You are the one paying for it and, later, will have no regrets.

Clearly you're on a tight budget as you're looking at a Vizio. I doubt I'll sway you from the inevitable choice you're going to make for the smaller tv with apps but I'll offer insight anyway.

I often stream content through the HDMI out port on my laptop to my tv. If you aren't using a laptop or the laptop doesn't have HMDI out you could always look at getting a wireless streaming unit such as the Roku(~$78 for 1080p streaming), Apple TV. Like someone else mentioned there are also DVD players that do all this like the Samsung BD-E5400 which includes wifi.

My vote goes for the bigger TV.

I would go with the smaller one with the apps too. Sure you can add on later with a Roku or something similar but that kinda defeats the purpose of staying in the budget.

The actual apps included would be important though. With Hulu, Netflix and Amazon you can pretty much watch anything

Go to Sam's or hhgregg and ask about displays or open box deals. I just got a Sharp 70" open box for close to $1000 less than new, I just had to buy a remote.

Haha, yeah, life of a college student right?

Thanks for the input!

It could be argued that at the same time if one were sticking to a strict budget they probably wouldn't pay for monthly subscriptions to one or more of those 3 services either.

don't you have to buy a wireless thumb drive for the Smart TV, so you should factor that into the price as well

well he already has Netflix so adding Hulu and an occasional buy from Amazon would take a while to match the price of a stand-alone player

also said he's a college student so buying a bigger tv for a smaller space isn't always the best idea
