Which SEC coaches were being paid more than Martin?

It's being reported widely now that Martin's salary was ranked somewhere around 9th in the SEC, hence he was justified in leaving.

Yet Hart has said his raise this year would have put him in the top 30 nationally. That seems to jibe with this chart, which includes no other SEC teams besides KY and FL:

What am I missing here? I don't see how any SEC coaches besides Donovan, Cal, and Martin were getting big bonuses this year.

Side note: I had no idea Coach K was pushing $10M per year. Whoa.

Sounds to me like a bunch of SEC coaches are overpaid.

This to an extent. He deserves to be behind Cal, Donovan, Anderson, Martin and Stallings based on what they've accomplished in their careers. Granted, Anderson and Martin's prior success hasn't carried over yet but everyone of those guys has experienced multiple sweet 16's at a minimum and all but Stallings have made at least one Elite 8.

Grant is overpaid, point blank.

don't think it was the amount of the raise that CCM was concerned with, it was the 2-year extension. He's got 5 with CAL now.

What sources are you guys using? Numbers seem to be all over the place. Sports Illustrated reported Martin was 9th, FWIW.

Looking at that chart makes me sick to think we play it so cheap with our basketball coaches....Unbelievable

If you figure in the money Cuonzo now owes UT, his profit this year puts him dead last. In the country.

Its because UT is and will always be a football school first.

That is the lamest excuse and typical cop-out for UT fans who do not understand basketball.

Florida is evidence that schools can be successful in football and basketball.

Is Florida a football school first?

Yes absolutely...they just happen to be good at basketball too...I remember in the 70's and some of the 80's when Florida was lucky to win 10-11 games a year but with the right hires things can turn around quickly...Florida found out that money could be made from basketball and went for it...The rest is history.

Its very difficult to do. Florida is the exception, not the rule. There are fewer than 5 or 6 programs in the country that I would consider 2 sport power programs.

The only thing holding UT back is UT.

Just as an example of why UT is and has always been primarily a football school, if I did a poll on VN and asked everyone if they would rather go 8-4 this year in football and go to a mid level bowl, or go the the final 4 in basketball, what do you think would be the results? I'm guessing 8-4 would win in a landslide.

Whether your school is viewed as a football or basketball school is up to the perception of more than just UT fans. Prospective students and student/athletes view things differently than old fans.

I love football but I would take a final 4 any day over 8-4 and a bowl.

That chart is only for teams that were in the NCAA Tournament year and was posted earlier in the week in another thread and people made the same mistake.

Florida got lucky. They took the "up and comer" approach (the one most people do not want UT to make) and hit a home run. Billy Donovan had compiled a record of 35-20 at Marshall before being hired ar UF. If UT made a hire like that, this place would crash.
