They did finish in 2nd in 1951 but which do you think is the best team after that Vols team of the other three times they made it to the College World Series?

I think the one in 2001. I remember coming home, and seeing the Vols were beating the Hurricanes but then there it became a nightmare with the Hurricanes scoring a lot of runs in some inning. How many innings in did it take for the Hurricanes to get the lead? The Vols would have to win again but I think they could have won the 2nd game because with the Vols becoming the first team to beat the Hurricanes in the CWS their confidence would be high plus a little momentum pressure would be on the Hurricanes because they couldn't eliminate the Vols in the rematch.

That 1995 team had some phenomenal talent. Todd Helton embarrassed Clemson with his junk pitches. (of course Clemson is 2 and @ in every tourney)

Tennessee was the second best team in that tournament but was unfortunately stuck in Fullerton's side of bracket.

That 2001 team could be considered the same but the bats were still "live" then and wee did not have the power hitters that other teams in that field had. I was at that first game against Miami and the hits and runs were insane. Jeff Christensen was the Belle of Omaha that week.

95s was best. Todd Helton, Bubba Trammel and R.A. Dickey. 3 major leaguers 2 of which were also Central high teammates that won the state championship. Now think ahow unfair that is for some pimple face high school team to have to deal with Helton and Trammel. You See Helton was a nasty left handed pitcher as well as the best hitter this state has probably ever seen. Its a shame bubba had that nervous breakdown or he would have stayed in majors a bit longer.

I believe Christensen's nickname was "Deer"

That team stole bases like crazy IIRC

2005

Current MLBers: Hochevar, Arencibia, Borbon, Headley

MiLBers: Adkins, Watson, Iorg, Alley

Multiple fist and second round picks. Fun team to watch.

That 95 team was fun to watch since I had seen so many play in Knoxville before going to UT.

Don't know much about the 51 team, but in my lifetime it's the 95 team and it's not even close.

The 94 team was better than the 95 ironically. We should have crushed Az State who was trying to get to Omaha one last time for dying coach. That team had even more local guys + RA Dickey as a freshman.

The 1994 Vols were the best baseball team the school has ever had. I remember that regional where the Arizona State coach was dying and they beat us. Their coach said he couldn't believe his team had beaten us.

Among the teams that got to Omaha, the 1995 team was the best. Teams have won national championships with weaker teams than that one, but no one was going to beat Fullerton that year. Maybe we just got payback by stealing a coach from them.

I'd have to agree that the '95 team was the best.

We must've had one helluva sports season in '51 though. What did the basketball team do?

Not even close? C'mon. I agree they're the best, but not by that much. Make a case.

Lineup was more solid throughout. There were multiple guys on that team that would make you pay. Better pitching staff top to bottom.

Quite frankly they got the raw end of a draw or would have finished second.

First game vs the Hurricanes a person might think it's a Football game because of the final score.

So was the 2001 team able to smash Georgia, and Southern Cal easily because they were not even close to the Hurricanes?
