Where SHOULD the Vols be ranked preseason, anyways?

Where would you rank UT preseason?

It looks like something made up, like when we used to say that Alabama always played the Pellissippi Institute of Calculator Repair. I think Vanderbilt could go 8-4 with that schedule.

I didn't even see 100 contiguous yards of flat ground for a football field when I was in northern Colorado...

Oh now, come on. There's been plenty of posters on here commenting on how UT can go undefeated or at least compete for the SECE. If you win the SECE, odds are you would be Top Ten.

I was hopoing to hear from some of those folks.

And from their invisible friends, named Esmerelda.

LG, you're way smarter than this. You know that preseason polls aren't put together by how everyone THINKS the season will end up. It's where these teams are right now, on paper.

And yes, every single season, teams like Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma, USC, LSU, etc, have a chance to go undefeated. It doesn't mean it's the most probable outcome.

Looking at Hawaii's schedule . . . I didn't even know Northern Colorado and Charleston Southern had football teams.
.....They combine the Men's Bowling, Tetherball and Badmiton teams in the fall.

Perhaps we are talking past each other. I voted you 10-20, with me leaning towards putting you in the bottom part of that range, based on where I see you right now, as we head into the season. I do not base that on where I think you will end up. You don't want to know where I think you'll end up.

BTW, I agree with your mathematically correct statement that everyone has a chance to go undefeated. I do not agree with your conclusion that no one on this board actually "expects" UT to finish undefeated or with one loss. A number of folks have so opined in the last few weeks.

We agree 100% on everything. I know people have said they think we'll go undefeated. I also voted 10-20, even though I would have liked the option of 15-20. Where we end up is a bigger question, ranging from 11-1 to 6-6.

When did they start playing the whole season then assembling the pre-season poll for said season?

I assume the 1 is to Bama, and why would you just assume we will lose to them. I don't think they are the best team we play.

The 1 isn't anyone in particular, but I don't think UT comes out unscathed against Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and Arkansas.

That is absolutely atrocious. Someone needs to be fired for that.

I believe we should be ranked about 15 preseason. Based on last season, the team we will field this season, and our schedule.

I am a believer that we have a chance to have a really special year. Cal will be a huge test. Opening on the road on the left coast will not be easy. A win in a test like that would be huge - it gives us confidence that beating Western Kentucky and Troy just can't. With a little luck this could be an awesome year.
