Where SHOULD the Vols be ranked preseason, anyways?

Where would you rank UT preseason?

I see someone is griping that Hawaii is #19 and UT is #20 in Athlon preseason rankings. Well, where should UT be ranked at this point? After a just plain bad 2005 season and a mediocre 2006 (culminating in a bowl loss to an average PSU team), where would you put UT?

In all seriousness LG, I don't think the Vols should be much higher than 20. Saying that is less painful than having to look at all the teams that actually get placed in front of them.

If the Vols had Hawaii's schedule where would you rank them?

Polls shouldn't come out until October 1 -- at least the ones that count, the AP and coaches' polls. These preseason magazine rankings are meaningless, so they don't matter.

Having said that, I'll bite. 18-20th.

Hey, can a Mod help me out and add 21-25 to the poll options? I guess I forgot about that region of the polls, being a Florida fan we just scan the Top Five, of course.

I don't recall anyone stating UT should be ranked in the pre-season top 10, but don't let that stop you, facts usually don't.

Oh now, come on. There's been plenty of posters on here commenting on how UT can go undefeated or at least compete for the SECE. If you win the SECE, odds are you would be Top Ten.

I was hopoing to hear from some of those folks.

If the vote is for where you think UT has a chance to END UP in the polls, in an optimistic mood I'd probably pick quite a bit higher. But if the question is where we ought to be ranked right now, coming out of last year, then anything above about 20 is wishful thinking. We've got a lot of work to do.

UT should not be ranked right now. There are too many questions (DL, DBs, WR, run blocking and special teams). That said, Hawaii has no business being ranked above any SEC team, except maybe MS St.

Disagree totally. The reasons you listed are the main reasons we are at about 20 and not top 10.

Mississippi State would be a bowl team if they had Hawaii's schedule. It's astonishingly bad.

Looking at Hawaii's schedule . . . I didn't even know Northern Colorado and Charleston Southern had football teams.
