In hindsight, I totally agree with this KB. I'm not sure CBJ had experience dealing with national high profile prima donnas, did everything he could to placate one in Hurd to the detriment of himself and his responsibilities. I hope he learned his lesson, appeasing a prima donna like Hurd, hurts the prima donna, the appeaser, and ultimately the whole team.
Butch has a stubborn streak...specially concerning loyalty. Held on to Mahoney and Martinez too long and is super hesitant to replace players he trusts. When Berry and Sutton were injured and Kamara was limited, that manifested itself in putting the "safe" option back in Josh Smith and Micah Abernathy. They're just not gamebreakers and replacing the weapons we had with caution was a learning lesson, I hope. Play the best players WHEN IT BECOMES APPARENT who they are. Unlike some of you clairvoyant rear view mirror message board prophets, that wasn't until the A&M game. Before then, based on body of work, Hurd was a proven commodity and you ride that. Afterwards, it was a failure to acknowledge how dynamic the running game could be with backs that got to the line of scrimmage quickly.
