Than your opponent, you need to show it. We really haven't done that... and that's where the animosity births from.

We're 8- 3. But could very easily be 6- 5. When in reality we should comfortably be 9-2 with the talent we had injuries included.

We never know what to expect from Butch Jones coached teams.

This is his cieling. Either we be happy about 8-3, or gather support to make a change.

It wouldn't be smart to make a change with the progress that is being made- despite how frustrating he is.

It ALL would depend on who we could get. The ONLY way to justify a change now would be if we had a HOME RUN ready to come in now. Make the change while we still have talent on the team ao a "rebuild " wouldn't be necessary. Otherwise... support them team and hope Butch grows up.

I get the unrest around Butch and this season but you don't fire him this year unless you have an absolute can't miss, homerun hire IMO. I don't think he needs to go but if you do it that's how I look it. Not with the Texas and LSU jobs on the table, as well as possibly Notre Dame.

Think of it this way.....if you were going to get $3M+ to coach a team and you could coach at Houston or UT, which would you choose? Same $ either way. Houston could be just a big of stepping stone to the schools you mentioned as UT. Personally, I'd pick Houston. Waaaaaaay less pressure and the conference is not nearly the same as the SEC. Sure, UT is a "storied program" but if quality of life is important, then its Houston all the way. Been a fan since '74 - just thinking logically not emotionally.

And to add to your "HOME RUN" theory while we have talent you gotta take into account that the remaining talent is suited to run what ever type of schemes the HOME RUN brings with him. A HOME RUN coach wouldn't do worth a crap if the players don't fit the scheme. Just my 2 cents.

With that said GO BUTCH and GO VOLS.....

Agreed. I also look at it as if we list 4-6 coaches we would replace him with and list the jobs that are open, count down to those 2 or 3 and those are probably who we would get. I don't want Butch to go anywhere any time soon, I like what he has done here. It's hard for me to be mad about improvement. South Carolina gets brought up every day and I understand being mad at that game, it was big at the time and is even bigger now but it's done and over with. With a shot at 10 wins as long as we win this weekend and a potential Sugar Bowl bid, I'm not as willing to rent a U-Haul and park it in his front yard as some are.

Could be 10-1 if not for an interception in OT vs. aTm or a made last FG at USCjr, so what? Our record is what it is. What is your evidence for a drop off?

My evidence to the contrary is an increasing win record year over year

And more talent.....with a redshirt year for development and maturation.

Two points:

1. Please name a coach that hasnt lost a game to a less talented team?

2. If you want to "gather support to make a change", who ya got?

1) Every coach has, but the great coaches don't consistently play down to their competition.

2) Tom Herman would be my choice. BUT... Butch has a huge buyout and Herman will get more money than we will offer.

3) Butch IS making progress. Just not in a way most fans are content with.

And what assures you that Herman would do any better?

With Texas, LSU (likely), and Notre Dame open. We would have zero shot at Herman. We aren't changing coaches anytime soon anyway

How are you so sure of this?

While we're theorizing, anyone consider that even with a dominating team, the BEST that UT could manage would be a 3 loss year as long as Saban is at UA? You know- the one in Oct., the one in Dec., and the NCG in Jan. So, Einsteins, who ya gonna hire to solve that problem?

Seriously how many of these threads do we need? Why can't all you who hate butch just be happy with posting on existing threads? Why do you feel the need to start your very own thread?
