He’s the only piece that’s still up in the air right now. What is the timeline on him deciding whether or not to sign? It seems like the longer it goes on, the better for Tennessee, but I may be wrong.

I found a pretty detailed Astros fan site that is tracking all their draft picks and whether they've signed yet. They don't really know either way with him yet, but I'm going to keep that site open for future reference over the next week or 2.

I would also add Bargo/Chapman into the up-in-the-air bucket. It's hard for me to believe we wouldn't make room for Bargo if he wants to return. Not sure on Chapman.

Who did we expect to lose?
From our crop of recruits and transfers, we lost:

Steele Hall
Billy Carlson
Kruz Schoolcraft
Matt Barr
Mason Estrada
Clay Edmondson

There was never greater than a 0% shot of getting Hall or Carlson.
Schoolcraft was essentially a pipe dream.
Barr wasn’t going to be able to get into the university.
I guess you might be able to argue that we thought we could get Estrada or Edmondson, but I don’t think anyone was surprised that they got drafted and intend to sign.
That leaves Newman, who could still sign with Houston. Hopefully he doesn’t though.

Edited to add… it should be noted that we expected to lose Ethan Moore and he’s coming to campus. Also, with Arvidson coming back and not losing Appenzeller, it’s almost like we are +3 in that department.

DJ just committed to Houston’s offer for $5,000 over his ask which was $200,000. He will head down tomorrow for his physical and will sign when everything checks out.

He and his family wanted to be at UT. They said a hard ask and made Houston come back multiple times to meet it. When they did he honored his word.

He’s had 2 season ending injuries and will have no leverage next year. I understand the decision.

Tennessee closed the gap almost completely in NIL to help with him not having leverage next year. But when Houston finally hit the number DJ honored his word and stuck to what he said.

Tennessee felt if he stayed healthy he would have been a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick.

Pitcher he had a path to being Drew Beam.

Hitting LSU offered him huge money to be their starting CFer next year.

He is a complete stud. Got hurt last summer with TeamUSA and again this spring.
