Either have to build it up and that take a while, have one heck of a lucky year or bring the bag men in! For us, it will take awhile, unless the bag men come in!

Next two years (assuming Grant leaves) the program is going to take a step back. Still make the tourney next year but probably like Nova this year. Then we lose three starters and will have to rely on a lot of frosh and sophomores. So not before 2022.

I’d say probably not going to make it with Barnes, so I don’t know. 10 years?

It all depends on when Coach Barnes decides to retire. I have a feeling he will coach Tennessee another 4-5 years before he decides to retire. I'm not sure if Tennessee would hire a good replacement for Coach Barnes.

The first step is to participate in the NCAAT more often. 22x in the last 53 years isn't enough. Only going to 2 NCAATs in the 1990s dug a huge hole to climb out of.

After making the field most years, then the next step is to make regular Sweet 16s. TN has only been to 8. Mears, Devoe, Green, Cuonzo, and Barnes have taken TN one time each. Pearl went 3 times in 6 years.

Fans have to get away from wanting a new head coach every time there's a bad season or a coach doesn't reach new heights. It will really help TN build a consistent winner if Barnes is allowed to retire on his own terms rather than having the mob run him off if he slips up in the next couple of years. We ran off Devoe, Green, Buzz, and Cuonzo. Can't keep doing that and expect great coaches to want the job. To be fair, at least 2 of those weren't good hires. Devoe got stale. 3 years is Cuonzo's MO.

That will probably depend on how many other buyouts they have to payout at the time.

When we actually start getting some calls from officials at the end of games, and hit FT's. We lost the Sweet 16 game to Michigan on a bad call at the end , missed FT at the end of the game against Mich. St. That kept us out of the Final 4 and of course we all know what happened against Purdue. Gotta get some calls to go our way and MUST hit FTs

If Grant and Bone come back , we should be pretty good next year

Next year if Bone and Grant stay. Especially Grant... we'll have a little more depth in the backcourt than in the paint.

Not all, but most games if you add the free throws missed to the final score the losers usually win. Games are won and lost at the free throw line.

I think you can peak too early and this team did. After the Loyola loss, they were chomping at the bit to destroy people early on. Hard to hold that edge for 4 months.

Loved watching Texas Tech punch their first ticket.
When will it be the Vols turn?
This is by far the easiest question I've ever had to answer. The answer is never. Tennessee has never been a good tournament team. They usually play their worst ball in a tournament. Different coaches, different teams, different decades, same result. And even if Tennessee has the team to do it it's almost as if the officials will not allow it. Have you ever seen a team that has an every single borderline call go against them this last month. Simply put Tennessee will not be allowed to make it.
