When will Pruitt/Helton have THE TALK with our 3 QB’s?

Now that we have Shrout, I’m wondering if we will want to carry 3 or 4 QB’s into the fall.
I would assume that our staff would like to have all 4 in Spring Practice to look at and then maybe one transfers.
Or, if Pruitt/Helton already think they know that one of the returning 3 should leave, will they tell that person that before spring practice to give more reps and attention to the others in the spring?

I wouldn't be surprised to see the starting QB in 2018 look completely different than they did in 2017. Right now, I'd say it's a toss-up between JG and McBride, and I'd probably give the edge to McBride. Gonna be interesting to see how that all plays out.

Go Vols.

I can’t fathom Shrout is expected to do anything other than RS.

I’d also assume spring practice is a wide open tryout. Is Shrout an EE? Will he even be at spring practice to stake a claim as starter?

I don't expect to see lots more going on until after all bowl games are finished and maybe after the NFL season is over too.

Pruitt may want a NFL coach or 2 on his staff so we may have to wait a bit longer to see what happens and exactly what each coach will be put in charge of.

Once all the coaching staff situations are settled then we'll see the coaches focused on more serious recruiting and what they'll decide with our current roster.

As soon as Pruitt is back on the hill and the recruiting dead period is over their top priority will be recruiting full force to make NSD in Feb be as good as they can get it.

LOTS to do and O and D staffs will spend many hours in the film rooms trying to figure out what our current players can and can't do well while they try to put together solid play books to start getting ready for Spring practice.

Most everything is going to be brand spanking new and these coaches are the guys that have to put this brand new program together ASAP.

Very long hours ahead for all our new coaches and that doesn't even include having to buy a house, pack everything they own and get moved in to their new homes.

I also have to have some pity for their wives getting all of this done too.

I'd love to have their income but I sure wouldn't want all the pressure, stress and crazy long hours of a footVol coach.

It's going to be really interesting to watch all that happens in the next year and to evaluate everything 1 year after this coming Feb NSD because we expect Pruitts 2nd signing class to be much better and most expect a top 5 class.

I personally think it will be JG. If there is a battle I think it will be QD and JG.

McBride doesn't fit a pro style offense. Too short and can't pas well enough. I could see him being moved to slot wr or db.

somebody is gonna have to RS, transfer, or change positons...just ain't enough room, and I don't see them all staying here at the QB position...something gotta give...:):)

PS. believe QD or JG to battle it out for starter of course...we'll see...and...

GO VOLS!

I agree. If McBride is in the mix, we're probably in trouble.

Lets see, they recruited a Pro style QB, Helton USC ran pro style Offense.
JG is a Dual threat QB with no duel in his Dual. Sacked over 20 times in 6 starts. Ran down from behind 3 times against USCe by D linemen. I think he ends up transferring. Just don't have that clock in his head to know when to get rid of ball. You can teach to throw ball out of bounds when getting sacked but the better QBs have that innate ability to slightly move and throw a strike he just don't have it and he's slow.

Agree. McBride needs to move on to another conference, can’t play in the SEC, and certainly can’t in the prostyle offense JP will run.

Should be either QD or JG in 2018 with Shrout second team, backed up by Washington and the preferred walk-on we just signed.

Let's see what 8 months with a competent OC does for him. I'm not ready to write him off just yet.

Of course, the same can be said about JG, so...

Oh, there's at least a 70% chance that I'm wrong.

You're right. There's no way to know whose light turns on with different coaching. I'm just going off the eye test. I've never quite gotten the love McBride gets. To me, he looks like a 3rd string QB with a marginal arm.

None of the current QB's on the roster are the answer... New staff and offense. Just of matter of time til the shoes start to drop

JG isn't going anywhere.

I always laughed at the practice video when they showed our Qb's throwing 50 yard bombs and then in the game we would run 5 yard routes

Before you start dropping the shoes we have, you better have a pair brand new pair of polished black and white penny loafers sitting in the closet.

I wouldn't write off Will "The Thrill" just yet my friends.

He was a true freshman and it was planned for him to redshirt but injuries forced him to get thrown into the SEC fire way too early.

He probably didn't know all the plays yet so he was working with a limited playbook and a horrid O line.

Poor kid was getting the crap knocked out of him all the time.

He proved he's tough, always got back up and went back to work trying to move the ball and score some points.

He made some throws and made some pretty good runs to prove he wasn't scared to put it all on the line to get yards.

Will still has a redshirt year available so if Dormady and JG can stay healthy then nobody knows how much better McBride might become in the next year or 2 working with good coaches.

Time will tell and I look forward to seeing what good coaches can do with our current roster.

Never write off a young player to soon, you may not like eating crow, LOL!

You know we arent still running Butch's system right? Both these QBs have arm talent. They just need to bo coached up on reading the field and making the right throws.

There is no way we have all 4 on the roster by August.. Dormandy will stay as a SR... McBride or Guartantno will leave.. Book it

1. QD
2. McBride
3. JG
4. Shrout (redshirt)

What's all the talk of transfer? We needed all three last year.
