Where you could expect men's basketball to be a better product than football?

Was it Ernie/Bernie? The last 5 years notwithstanding. I can't remember it ever being like this.

I can't wait for BBall season!

If we can't count the last 5 years, I wasn't born or old enough to know.

You thinking about Bernard King? If so, I remember watching him play at Boston Garden back in the mid-70's.

Excluding the last 5 years and asking that question is like asking When can we remember subway having more restaurants than McDonalds but don't count the last 5 years.

Late 70s, early 80s.

Yep, but I think the expectations for football at the beginning of the year were higher, so I wouldn't even count this year. Certainly Pearl's last year, expectations were higher.

Expectations were pretty high after Pearl's first season.
Record attendance thru his tenure that carried over into last year. (Surprisingly)

Anyone catch Cuonzo plugging his fan base in his preseason media day interview?
He likes us.

My dad always talks about the early years with Mears. Says they were awesome to watch. Stokely was packed.

Every games was a sellout. It was a rocking place. Mears was an unbelievable coach and showman. That is when the plans were laid for TBA.

Which was amazing because in those days basketball was a pretty boring sport.
You whipper snappers probably didn't live through the days before the shot clock (1985)
You could have a high powered offense and run up against a team like NC that held the ball the entire game using a 4 corner offense and the final score was 24-12.
Though I did watch during the Ernie/Bernie years, I wasn't much of a fan of dribbling and passing for 40 minutes.

when was the last time you saw the experts say : Kentucky (1-8, 0-6)

An SEC team couldn’t ask for a cushier November slate than Vanderbilt, Samford and Tennessee.

Check the forum. Not sure what you're driving at with this one.

It doesn't really make any more sense in the context of the football forum except that it includes UK's record in football...

Ray Mears was a great coach who recruited some great players and knew what to do with them. DeVoe was a pretty good coach at the beginning, but I was a way in the Army and don't remember his last years at UT. I think he got into some trouble, but I just don't remember (I'm not trying to slander or discredit him in any way).

Bernie's night time escapades drove him to a nervous breakdown.
