When was the last time TN had good offensive line?

2012 was a good OL
They (Tiny, Ja'Waun James, Zach Fulton, James Stone) were great at pass protection but only average with the run. The last time we had a complete line that could also consistently run block would probably be 2004 with Munoz, Cody Douglas, Arron Sears, Jason Respert and Rob Smith.

I recall the days of the Oline being built like brick sheet houses, and looked every bit the part... but could not run. They got ate up big time. Then it went down hill from there.

Funny how that OL was good at pass protection, we had great QB play but couldnt win more than 5 games.

I put some of that on Randy Sanders.....but....and this is easy to forget, all our losses were close. I think 5/6 were by a single score. Heck, that was one year before the 12 game season. One more game and we likely go to a bowl.

Our 2015 OL was pretty good....good enough to build up double digit leads against OK and FLA--and produce a 4th QTR drive at BAMA to give us the lead late in the 4th QTR....

1998's OL was truly DOMINANT....good ones in '99 and 2001.....

So what makes a dominant consistent offensive line? Position technique coaching? Player placement? Offensive concept? Player effort and competence? All these things and more factor into it, but I think the number one thing that makes an o line a real force is unit cohesion built by closeness of all the players, if they know each other and like one another, if they all feel taught well and feel the men next to him are as well they will trust and play like a unit, a wall with one mind. IMO this isn’t the case at UT, if they don’t respect the coaching or each other there’s a disconnect. They’ll play like 5 individuals communicate badly and execute badly. I think it’s obvious.

I feel like we have had some teams that under achieved badly. 2012 Tennessee 2015 Tennessee 2016 Tennessee. I honestly thought through the first half at the Florida game in 2012 that we were back.

I think any OL that had Dobbs as QB was Average at best. Reason: Dobbs threat of running keep most Defenses at bay.....and could not blitz load up the line...

Offensive line look better than they actually were...
